My SIL did when she was pregnant. She has purple/pink hair dyed over her natural medium brown, I believe she used a level 20 developer. She is a beautition and was determined not to have two toned hair lol. I want to try adding beet juice to cassia for a nice glaze type look. Ive done hibiscus before which leaves a nice pink and slightly purple stain for a week or two i bet beet would be lovely.

I think I may try this next time I henna, as I've got burgundy now but have been craving more of a purple hue lately. I love pink.sara's pics and the fact that she got it to last for 5-6 wks is remarkable! just wondering what a good mix would be and if fresh or powdered would be better...

Hiya. Kept it warm on the stove in a glass bowl over a saucepan! Messy but glad of the tile floor!

Thanks for the compliment and I think the powdered henna I got from Nightshades link on the henna pages stayed better. Now I'm using fresh and do it once a month on payday! Makes it all shiny and bright again though so on my shoulder hair is worth it.
Could definitely be a pain on long hair once a month though

What a great idea! I chopped them up for a salad once and they dyed my hands, tounge and teeth red so why not hair too! I would try it if my hair was a bit lighter and could soak up the dye.

LOL I meant fresh beets vs powdered beet root, which I see at several online health shops. At any rate the powder would probably be a bit easier to prepare, just wondering if it would give as strong of a stain.

    Auntie Google.... I love it!

I hope you don't mind that I've adopted your Auntie into my own family... you can just consider me the red-headed stepchild of the family!

I tried just beets with a little paprika, mushed up and slathered on. I let it sit for several hours, covered with plastic and a turban, but it didn't take. Not even a glow in sunlight, or staining on my silvers.

I remember Iris trying this, I think, to get her henna more reddish. Didn't work.

It has something to do with a difference in cotton fiber versus human hair, but it stains one well, the other not so much.
