Thought I'd share a tweak I made to my SMT, don't know if this has already been tried (the abbreviation for Apple Cider Vinegar is too short to show up in a thread search).

I omitted the aloe as always because my hair doesn't do well with it, and added a capful of ACV. It ended up being amazing! My hair has never ever been this soft in my life.

ACV? Never thought that! But doesn't it make the SMT too liquid? I'll try it next time!

No, I just add a capful or two which ends up being less than a teaspoon, so it doesn't make it runny at all. Of course this depends on how much conditioner and honey you use relative to the ACV. I also don't heat up the conditioner or honey so no part of it is really that liquidy.

ETA: I also apply my SMT as I would a regular conditioner, so this is in the shower after I've washed my hair. Then I do my bodywash and shave my legs to let it marinate as long as possible. Then I turn the water back on and rinse it out.

    I just tried this.
Used 1 part Fruit of the Earth Clear AVG., 1 part regular store bought honey, 4 parts Generic Biolage, dash of coconut oil, dash of olive oil.
Washed hair and rinsed 1 cap of white vinegar in 2 cups water, applied to wet hair (next time will remember to towel dry, not wring)
covered in shower cap and left on 2 hours.
rinsed well and bunned to dry.

my hair has been snapping off a lot due to a recent keratin treatment that FRIED my hair. I mean zig zag texture on many pieces type fried. I have protein overload. I can pull a test hair and it snaps instantly. I had to cut from almost BSL to CBL and will be maintaining for a year at this length until the damage is cut off.
Right now my hair feels a lot more moisturized so I plan on doing this weekly.
Will also be mixing coconut and olive oil as a pre poo once a week just for added protection. I am hoping to report back in a month with better hair. Wish me luck.

i forgot to add i did not heat mixture. I do not think there is enough honey to lighten plus I read heating destroys the benefits of the honey. I mixed mine up in tupperware and brought it into shower to keep mess to a minimum.
the reason for the vinegar rinse was I have hard water and wanted hair clarified so the hair shaft could really absorb the ingredients and not have to fight to penetrate thru buildup. Since I will do this treatment weekly I will be clarifying weekly to I imagine. My results were too good to mess with the process

Also, I noticed the heat from the shower was enough to gt my mix a good consistency . I mixed with a plastic teaspoon and the steam from my shower gave me a perfect batter to apply to hair. No curds or lumps. Hope this helps some who are having issue with clumping.

Thanks ErinLeigh. It sounds like you had a good experiment. I know that when I've had "the curds" or clumps, it didn't seem to have anything to do with stirring the mixture. The clumping is from some change in the conditioner that happens either when the mixture is heated or some other ingredient added to my mix. I've read others replies that it may be related to something in the conditioner that causes that reaction, emugulaters (sp?). Anyhow, it's great that your mix seemed to work perfectly.

I always have problems with clumps no matter what conditioner I use. Wonder what I am doing wrong?

Is there something in your aloe vera, any added ingredient, a preservative maybe? Take out the aloe and mix everything else up first and see what happens.

Also I found one time that letting the honey and aloe cool first helped before adding conditioner, but maybe that was a coincidence.
