Thanks Cocobean! I will try the Niente bun - never heard of it before so I guess I learned something new

I did it just now.. And I can shake my head without it falling apart... Discovering this now, Maybe my assumption is wrong and I have coarse rather then medium hair? It seems it's friction that's holding it up.

Curly hair tends to clump and stick to itself, you probably are a medium, but it holds because of your curl, I bet you don't have to tie off plaits either.

Yes, but it only holds for a couple of hours when my hair is freshly washed.

No. I knew it was possible for many people, but mine is so slippery, it's hard to keep it in a bun even with pins and sticks.

I can put my hair in a knot, but I do not think it would stay. I would rather use bobby pins for my
bun. That way it stays up.

This definitely has a lot to do with hair type...I doubt that my hair at any length would be able to hold a knot with no assistance.

I am at hip-ish now and my hair is just too slippery for it to work.

On an interesting side note, remember all those ancient bog bodies found in Europe? One of them was found with his hair in a pinless knot...kinda cool, ya?

Made it to terminal length at mid-calf, now I'm maintaining at my favorite length: Classic!

I could when my hair was longer (and more damaged ) most convenient thing ever!

If my hair keeps going with the texture it has now it won't be possible even when my hair grows out but I do think that it works better with long layered hair or with a thin hemline.
