Huh. Well then, consider me taking back my concern--I only know my experiences, and that's a lot of hair for me! I'll try consider myself lucky that I normally don't shed much rather than worry about an amount that isn't abnormal for others. Thank you for sharing your experiences, everyone!

What a difference little details can make. My hair was so happy with weekly SMT's all summer long, but when cool, wet weather hit - and coincided with me leaving the treatment on for an hour instead of my usual 20 minutes - my hair turned into cotton candy. I switched to just condish diluted with a little aloe juice and my hair is much happier. From now on I'll save the honey for use during the appropriate meteorological conditions.

I have done this with only conditioner( basically just letting it sit longer, then rinsing, which does not really count). I would really like to do this, except for one thing.I am very severly alergic to Aloe Vera.It would harm me, not help at all.Is there anything else that has the same effect for people with alergies?Suggestions anyone?

If you have a true Aloe vera allergy, then you should pretty much stay away from all sorts of plant stuffs.

I mixed up an SMT tonight and stuck it under the globe lights in my bathroom while the kids showered. It was lovely and warm when I took it down. No need for a microwave here!

cmg, I do well with other plantish things, like shea butter, coconut oil, rosemary, nettle, etc, but yes, I do have to be carefull. Do you think a SMT would work just as well with just honey and conditioner?

Browniegirl, Try it! Cross reactions are always possible, like for example if you have problems with terpenes from pine trees. The honey might give you a reaction. You could try a small portion of the mixture in your ellbow-pit for say, ten minutes, and then wash it off. If there is no reaction within an hour, you're probably safe. You could try mixing in things like mushed avocado or an egg (preferably the yellow, but apply no extra heat then). Honey acts like a protein, so it can sometimes give the hair abit of a strawy feel. This goes away with the next wash. I've always liked honey or agave sirup in my hair. Makes it really smooth and shiny. You might try cassia, but this may cause a reaction if you can't tolerate senna-plants or mustard.

Regarding the shedding, I noticed I shed a lot more than usual while I was rinsing out the SMT last night, but I shed a lot less than usual today. Interesting...and I only noticed it because of this thread.

I mixed some up earlier this week with Avalon Organics Nourishing Lavender conditioner. My hair LOVED it. I'll probably try it with some of my V05 Kiwi Lime this week and see how that turns out.
