I'm about at BSL now. At the rate my my hair growth so far, I should be at waist by the end of the summer.
Sometimes my hair grows faster in the summer months though, so it might be sooner.![]()
I think my longest layers *might* be waist-length? [The black]
It's gotten hard to tell where my waist is lately.....

Actually, my hair tapers similar to your own (from layers as well). I took off an inch myself and with our hemline it is super super easy. I just made that low pony tail on damp hair. And then watched in the mirror as I pulled it straight down to the tip. Put it in front, and cut off an inch from the bottom in a straight line. It turned out well. I was pretty surprised. There are pics in my album of it. Everything from the start to the red shirt.

How do you handle layers? (if you have them) I don't want to keep them (well, at least not as heavily layered as they are now, light layers would be okay) do I need to get those trimmed? That is where I was concerned.... I am worried that those have some splits and I can't get at them.
Am FINALLY at waist (note to self, update siggy pic)... To maintain or to not maintain (keep growing).... that is now the question
For the layers, I very (I mean verrry) rarely do a slight dusting. Other than that I have S&Ded. I am lucky to have a decent amount of my layers in the back grown out at this point. The top layer used to be above my ears in the back and above my eyebrows in the front.
With the method I used though, it slowly gets rid of the layers because just the bottom portion gets cut and the shorter sides are at an angle (evening out the hemline).
I would just be worried that they would take off the same amount everywhere and take away your progress to growing out the layers.
What I eventually did awhile ago was cut about 4-5" off the bottom because my layers were just too thinned out. You can definitely just make small trims though.

hmmmmmm.... maybe I WILL wait a while then... my hemline/ ends are not in terrible shape (since I have been S&Ding) and I can try the method you suggested. It was the layers I was concerned about and where I was finding splits.... I was worried too that I would lose what I had grown out (w/ the layers) .

A necessary evil - I got a trim. My ends were to the point where they were crunchy. I really wanted to tell my stylist 1/2" but I knew I should instead let him cut off what he thought was best, because I trust him.
It looks great, thicker than usual and healthy/soft/shiny. But alas, I'm a little bummed that I've lost 1.5", down to 24, which is where I was in October. (And in August, but trimmed in September.)
It's so tempting just to grow and grow without cutting, like I did from Jan-Sept of last year but at this length, my ends really need to be cared for. This post is me reminding myself that it looks better and only I can see 1.5" as a huge loss, and others probably can't tell. My hair still looks "long."
These pics were about 10 years ago... Trying again from similar to that short pic.
I'm going to trim one inch off. I'm at 31......I can trim to a more solid 30 with less of a U shape I think. I'm going for straight across this time. I don't have any splits but my hair is more tangle prone near the ends now. I really think I'm ok with an inch.
Current Pic. Goal Tailbone.
I straigtened at the weekend and I am getting so close to waist I can smell itUnder an inch I think.
Thing is its only the very centre of the bottom layer that will be at waist, the rest is inches behind. Dont think I can count it as waist till its all caught up. Once this strand reaches waist I start maintaining so it can eventually be a blunt hemline.
