Is it pulling your nape hair? Have you tried different size clips? One of the most comfortable styles for me right now is a cinnabun held loosely with a small claw clip. I got these really nice solid small claw clips that hold really well.
I agree with Reading Renee. I'm barely at CBL (but with fine/thin hair so I may have a bit more functional length because things don't have to go around so much). I can do a peacock twist, French twist, or cinnamon bun with a three-prong fork, a Ficcare, or relatively small claw clips (like 1.5"/4cm long). Can you do several positions of ponytail on your head, at least? You can always loop the ends in if you have a soft enough hair tie.
Couldn't hurt to try a smaller clip. I have noticed that I have that pulling pain when my clip is too big so I guess it's grabbing hairs unevenly? Or maybe some hair is falling out but it's still trying to be grabbed? Hope you can figure out the problem. I can actually use a much smaller clip that doesn't seem like it would contain all my hair, but somehow it holds it all onto my head,
so might be worth a try.
Again, I agree with ReadingRenee! Claw clips have to hold a lot less than you think, I'm sure I could get away with smaller than the current ones I have. I also suggest two small ones instead of one large.
I know that the classic claw clip size from the 90's was like this big:
but you can hold a bun up with something more like this:
(not the best pictures, but the first I found to kind of show the point)
edit: so I suggest trying two small clips on either side of the bun, which could maybe distribute the load better across the scalp, plus the clips themselves would be lighter. I also just thought of something else: how gappy are the teeth on your clip? Maybe the spacing is too far apart or something, which causes the clip to kind of dangle instead of really grabbing lots of different scalp hairs. This was an issue for my mom when she used the big clips, but we both have that fine/slippery/thin hair and maybe it's less of a concern for you.

Hmm, thank you! Lots more to think about. I'll have to try smaller clips. The ones I have are definitely the large ones, and that may very well be the problem.
well....I did promise....pardon the near scowl, and it looks like I am drooping my head forward a little....argh...posture!!!
but first the wet shots

It’s getting there! Remember curls take longer to look long, shrinkage can be challenging
