Looks fine to me but I never bothered to check conditioner ingredients when I was doing glosses.

The one thing you don't want to mix with henna is metallic salts and those should never be in conditioner.

For what its worth, I use suave daily clarifying conditioner for glosses. Cheap, cone and oil free.

Thanks for the reply! I have made henna treatments in the past, but never bothered to actual find any information about them. For example I was not aware of that metallic salts -part; good to know!

I am also a bit wary due to previous protein overload, and apparently henna might act in somewhat similar way. So I am trying to avoid any added protein (especially hydrolyzed ones) with it.

    Hey!

I'm having trouble finding I formation on what mix of henna I need. That's the only bit of research I can't seem to find.

I've looked at the Henna for Hair website, but when I click on the 101 link about colour mixing it tells me there's no information at that webpage, so...

I wish to have orange hair. I could use a permanent orange, bit then there's the harsh rootage. And I have been using veggie dyes for the most part, but I want to try something different.

I have tried henna once before. It was years and years ago, back in high school. I got a packet mix from The Body Shop, and it wasn't ground, and the smell made me feel really sick 'cos it smelled like tea. So I could only stand to leave it on for so long, and because of seeds and other stuff on it, it was a nightmare to rinse out.

I know baq isn't like this, so I'm hoping for a better experience this time around.

There are a few different options I've come across that I can easily get ahold of, and I've ruled out ones that aren't that good also. So my remaining options are Lush Caca Rouge, Radja (and two other names) from India, and the Light Mountain (with different animals on the box) via Amazon. They all have an "orange" based option.

I know the last two have to sit for longer in order to release the dye, so the length of time the procedure takes is not a problem.

I'm just wondering which is the best brightest orange out of those?

I know henna doesn't lighten. Just any orange tone to cover my hair is what I'm aiming for, so my natural colour is different.

Thanks in advance, and let me know if I should make my own thread.

What colour is your natural colour? That will affect the colour you get with henna. You likely want a henna/cassia mix. You might want to consider Nightshade's henna mixes or making your own mix. Unless your hair is almost white, I think you will need both henna and cassia.

I second Shorty. If you are unsure about mixing Henna, Nightshade has great mixes. She has an Etsy shop and is very responsive to questions. The smell of henna isn’t the best in my opinion either, so I add ground cloves. I smell like a hippy at Christmas for weeks

I think light mountain would be a better option, you can get straight henna without any other additives. Its not baq though and from what I remember, iys a little course but not chunky.

Henna smells like hay, some worse then others. I use orange essential oil, 1/2 teaspoon to 100 grams of henna. I add it after dye release.

I do agree with the others, your end color completely depends on your current color. Henna is incredibly permanent too, often bleach won't even take it out without multiple applications so be 100% sure its what you want.

My natural hair colour is a medium brown but with quite a bit of orange/red strands throughout. I do have a little white, I tend to S&D those.

Thanks. I will check those out.

Ah, I have a mule, so I don't mind the hay smell at all.

I'm absolutely fine with it being permanent. I do have like 3" of previously bleached hair (with orange over the top) at the bottom of my hair, but I'm trying to steer clear of having to bleach again.

So, it's either henna or permanent mange orange again.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I don't mind the hay smell, but I love cloves, so I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

Hello! I think this thread is appropriate for my question. I've been using henna for a while now (2 full hennas in the last year and some soft glosses before) and I really like the colour but would like it to be brighter.
I am planning of reaching my goal length (waist, by the end of this year perhaps) before deciding to do anything drastic but I've been doing my research and I'm not quite sure what would be best. I'm considering two main options, either:
    - lightening my hair 1 or 2 tones with bleach (I'd rather do it in a controled way instead of sun in) and using henna with it. Doing my roots with bleach and then henna as necessary;
    - using a red hair dye, and doing my roots as necessary.
I've seen people here using bleach to remove henna ou using henna to cover up old bleach but I was wondering if it would be a good idea to do it regularly or if a hair dye would be less damaging.
If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it!
