Hey everyone 👋
I have returned after three years away, and realised my hair is no longer, because I kept bleaching it and then cutting it due to the damage. So I decided to get back on the henna train, this time making it easier on myself by going for just henna, and for less time.
I used to do the full 2 step henna indigo process, and for overnight both times, because I had been dyeing my hair dark chemically before. It finally put me off the whole thing and I returned to the salon.
I started getting bad reactions and an awful scalp from the dye used in my roots, so I was going to grow out my greys. Unfortunately I just didn't like the grey look on me, but since my hair was now bleached and grey, I thought I'd make things easier on myself and just try henna alone, for 2 hours, with a mildly acidic liquid (water + ACV pH 4, about 1 TSP in 500ml water) based on the helpful tests in this forum. I also cut my time by mixing with warm water, and then covering with cling film and putting in a warm oven for about an hour. By then they dye was releasing and stained my hand when left on for a minute.

As expected, the blue/green cancelled out the orange and my ends were significantly cooler toned (and slightly green) than my roots, so I applied fresh henna to the bleached ends only, for 4 hours. I had strand tested 2 hours also, but the green still shone through.

Thanks to everyone in this forum who has contributed their experiences, I read through as much as I could before I started and I'm really happy with the results. I managed to refine the process for myself much more than my previous experiences, and I'm sure that I can keep this up, or go to my ever-willing stylist to apply the henna if doing it on my own head is too exhausting. And no more bad reactions and nasty scalp, yay!! I also just LOVE the way my greys make my hair so variegated, it'll look great when it's long!
You're so pretty, Razzles, and the henna color suits you very well. I don't have a ton of gray, but I also love the look as they get longer with henna-well, now started henna/cassia. I look forward to seeing it longer, too. Good luck!
Fresh henna! It's hard to show the color, but these pics were taken indoor, with indirect sunlight. I'm loving it
Btw, I love your colour Razzles! It really suits you, it's so lovely
Razzles, that turned out beautiful! Did it oxidize already? I'm surprised it covered the ends so well with just two applications! :0 Thank you for documenting the before & after, that could be very informative for someone in future! :)
Nono, that's a really lovely shade, and so rich in indirect light, too!

I'm having a bit of trouble getting my henna less orange without going too dark. Its fading a bit this time round, not sure if its the henna I'm using or if its due to the bleach damage.
This is with three rounds over very light bleach blond. I'll probably leave it like this, the little virgin roots I have are a nice copper.

Its not as bright when put up since more of the roots show.
Dee94 I also need to know what henna you used the color is fabulous... And what is your virgin color?
