It does get lighter at the ends, closer to an aburn color, but I think in that picture my miserably fine hair is just more compacted at the top and very very spaced out at the bottom so it looks lighter. The minute the ends are compacted it all looks the same. And thanks!

Amiraaah, your waves/curls are to die for!!! Congratulations on hitting waist, what a mane. Do the ends look terrible (splits and damage) or do they just feel a bit dry and lacklustre?

I’ve been playing with a shampoo bar this month. My super sensitive skin seems to tolerate it, my roots are happy, but my hair is getting more dry-feeling with each wash (so far I’ve done three, each a week apart). Been adding oils to the ends (sweet almond and olive oil) but it feels like that’s not yet the answer (it just feels like oil on dry hair). Tried an acv rinse but didn’t like the feel of it after. So watch this space. I’ll keep trying. (Any suggestions?)

Last time I washed, I plopped it for an hour before air drying during the day:

This time I air dried with no scrunching or touching:

It’s kind of cool to see but I would prefer to have the hairs lying *downwards* like when I was wo/nw. The waves they are a bit random and tangly looking (but not actually tangles), and I worry about compressing that into buns (hairs are gonna be bent sharply). Is this why people brush in shower with conditioner on? Or I could do damp brushing and damp braiding but my fine hairs would definitely take damage unless things were super slippy. I’m not bothered about keeping the waves, I bun every day. But nice to know they are there.

I just want a super simple routine that preserves my poor fragile hair, and doesn’t set off my skin, not much to ask is it?
You got such beautiful hair and it looks so long! when do you think you will call it?

I had a similar experience with shampoo bars. My scalp didn't mind them at all, and in the beginning my hair was fine with it too, a bit more frizzy than usual, but fine. I did notice my hair wanting to tangle more, so I eventually discovered a very diluted ACV rinse to "work nicely" for me (it made my hair feel sleek and such in shower), but my hair just started looking and behaving worse and worse and worse. After a while I had to give up on it, and that wasn't fun. I love the sustainability with shampoo bars, but if they don't work with my hair, that's just not doable...

When I was going to "reset" my hair after those 4 months of shampoo bar+ACV rinses, I used a normal sulphate shampoo and was HORRIFIED, the shampoo was a clear liquid that turned into a white foam (normally), what came out of my hair was pure YELLOW. I shampooed my hair three times with that shampoo and all those times it came out yellow. No wonder my hair felt weird, it never actually got clean!

Still wish they would've worked, I'm sometimes tempted to try them out again, another brand, but I don't know if I dare, honestly...

After that I used shampoo + jojoba oil for a good time, until my hair started getting sick of it (maybe it was spring that made it stop working?), so now I found a shampoo and conditioner combo that my hair actually seems to like a lot... We'll see for how long that remains x)

Beautiful! Congrats!! You definitely look to be at WL to me (even looks to be a few inches past waist), so I'd call it!

Oh mannn whyyyy has it got to be this way! :whines: I had such a lovely long break while doing wo, it came to a natural end and was th right thing for me at the time. I’ve never yet found something that works for my hair and my scalp but being here on lhc I’m very hopeful that it’s entirely possible. I rinsed for a long long time with nice warm water but I’m going to be super careful about build up after reading that, thanks for the info. All that yellow! What a shame (the one I have is a bit yellow too).

Seriously I still think I’ll make it to waist for solstice end of June. I do this thing where I place one finger on my back at waist and stretch my ends down to see how far there is left to go. And the hairs just don’t touch! In the shower, I thought they were ever so slightly touching. As others have mentioned, the angle that pictures are taken has started to matter - time to retrain my lovely bf (he tolerates this task, which is odd because he loves taking pictures, just not of the back of my head lol).

Long life and best wishes to your latest happy s&c combo!

    Edit: double post

Milosmomma my bf sent me this avatar pic so I don’t know it’s heritage, but isn’t it sweet! Oh dogs, they just break your heart don’t they? I would have loved to watch this dog planning and executing the guitar case bed manoeuvre

It is like a never ending journey to find perfect hair products, even when you find something that seems perfect, after a few months/years it suddenly stops working! It's not fun at all. I don't feel like I'm content with my current routine, I want something more sustainable, but for now it will have to be enough.

Oh, okay, that's not too long! if your bf manages to take some photos, do share

Oh ARGH estrid - story of my life! The only thing that my hair seems to consistently like is CHANGE! Protein, then moisture, then clarifying - reboot and repeat.

You guys are all looking SOOOOO good!!
