I’ve been on holiday for a couple of weeks and had been wearing my hair up a lot, but one day decided to let it down to see how the soft water affected it. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it against my collarbone, I felt like doing a little dance

I think it’s going to take over a year for me for me to reach APL, with trims, so I might as well settle in and get comfy!
yey, the gang is gathering one by one.

Welcome. So nice to see you here!

My hair is a little past shoulders, so i can do more pretty hair styles. Or, well, attemp to do them.

I measured how many inches it will take for me to get to AP and it is quite daunting. Well over a year. I almost feel like I shouldn't have rushed to leave chin to shoulder.
, lol. And to top it off, my curls are making it seem like I am not gaining length. I feel "stuck". But then I think about how nice it is to wear a half up and an almost pony and then think about how frustrated I was last summer and that definitely makes me feel better!

In a video I watched a week or so ago (the name of the person on YouTube escapes me), the woman said that although it will take a long time to grow your hair to the length you want, time is a gift and to use it for working out what works best for your hair and to work on hair health. Perhaps to focus on the health of your hair and to try and ignore how long it is, or even stop measuring it altogether, could help pass the time!

Stray_mind, your hair looks so good with those braids, really pretty.

I'm almost att APL, but I'm wondering if I should cut back to shoulders again. I trimmed about 0.5 inches yesterday, but it really wasn't enough, my ends are super dry and I still have split ends in every individual hair, too much for S&D. I'm quite sad, because I finally started to feel that I have hair. But I'm so unhappy with it, because it always looks and feels so ugly...

But, if I cut it, then I will have short and dry hair, and I don't know if it's really better. I have never been able to grow my hair longer than this. But I think it maybe was not a good idea to start with hendigo again for a couple of years ago...

Thank you both for the welcome! It’s good to see some familiar names Stray_mind your hairstyles always look great! Your natural colour is taking over now, I love it.

I don’t think it would have helped to stay in the other thread - speaking as one who did! Just think how different things will be this time next year! I think I’ll be here until at least September/October but the difference in how my hair looks and feels will be huge.

Hi everyone. I'm brand new here, with hair just past my shoulders after cutting off all the dead and dry ends a few weeks ago. I must say, I'm feeling really sad at the lost length, looked up how to grow my hair faster and got to this forum. Yay! Just started cowashing this week, I discovered I have very super fine, high porosity hair (goes from fluffy, poofy mess to soaked within seconds of stepping in the shower and dries completely within an hour) and I have waves too! That's a lot for an old woman to figure out.

I have never been able to grow my hair past bra strap length and usually get frustrated and cut it to shoulder length because of breakage. But after finding you guys I have hope! My goal is waist length. I want to look like an old hippie. LOL.

Welcome Catnappen, love your user name as I type this I have a fat cat napping on me. Good work figuring out your hair types I havent even attempted that yet for myself.

Stray mind - love the braids. I just cant braid, is this something you learn with practice? I have a bad case of lame finger-itis (totally made that diagnosis up!!) My fingers aren't coordinated enough to braid

Suortuva- I'm worried too that when i get some decent length I'll need to chop off inches of dead hair I'm trying to be extra gentle but its bleached so is going to be really fragile

Just worked out my hair type is
    2a/c/iii
In my world that equates to my hair looking like a lions mane at the moment .. so much hair 😞

Thanks for the article, Lady Stardust! It was a really good article indeed.

MissMuse, I have noticed that wearing my hair up (I like braids and high disc bun) helps a lot... I just want to wear my hair down sometimes, and then I feel so miserable... So I'm gonna try to wear it up (even) more and see if that helps. I was hoping to be able to maintain my hair below APL, but I don't think it's possible. But if I can maintain it at APL, that's always something...

And welcome Catnappen! I have high porosity hair that dries in second after wash, too.

Thank you, everyone, for the compliments!

    Welcome Catnappen!

MissMuse-it definitely comes with practice. I still have a lot to learn, like four strand braid or five strand braid is completely out of my league. I find doing french rope braid difficult as well.

If you find braiding hard, you can always take some thread, tie the strands to something and braid them, until your fingers remember the movements. Then repeat the same thing on your own hair.
