I'm having a hard time. When I have to wear my hair up, I use a ton of bobby pins to keep it neat. I also make a ponytail and wrap my hair around it. That's the only way I can make a normal bun.

Trollyepup posted the coolest video of a figure eight bun done on a stick. I had to try it since it was so easy. Well, it's a mess on me- BUT the chopstick I used (I don't have any sticks) is still in my hair (albeit lopsided), and holding it somewhat.

You guys have any simple ways to make buns at our length? Would love to hear how and see pics.

Hey there! I bun all the time at this length and have since probably APL.

    - the lazy wrap bun with 1 finger only (more eats up too much length!) is my go-to at this length. It stays with a stick, no problem. But took a little practice to learn to get tight enough. Keep trying!!

I also buy double-pointed aluminum knitting needles and bend them around something ~ 1/2" in diameter (or 3/4" ish) and will use more than one of those to hold something like a cinnabun. You get like 5 out of a pack of needles and I like that better than just bobby pins if I need extra hold.

I do have rather a lot of hair that likes to 'unwind', so sometimes it takes a few tries to get one that stays - it also always stays better with a little texture than if I blow-dry it straight.

Do you have layers as well? I do - and it tends to make mine 'spriggy' occasionally, but sometimes a little easier because I don't have so much thickness at the end.

    Good luck!

    Thank you guys
I have some bun waves in the pictures lately - they seem to hold a little longer for me now that I use leave-ins and diffuser.
They fell flat after few hours today, but it's second day hair and already getting bit greasy.

I also tried to put my hair up in a bun. Not quite successful yet. I find it difficult to tuck the ends in. Some patience and practice needed!

Try a disc bun! I’ve found that the sectioning makes it possible for my iii hair (4.25 circ) when I still can’t manage most other buns. My hair is a bit longer than yours (~30 in) but being a ii and depending on whether you have layers or not, you might have some luck with it . I’m hovering just above BSL so I haven’t graduated to this thread yet, but hope to see you all soon!

    Thanks ladies.
@Ophidian - I watched a video on how to do a disc bun and it's too hard for this newb. I do like it though and will try eventually once I've mastered the easier ones.
My hair thickness is up for debate. It depends on who's measuring it. So I really don't know if I'm a ii or a iii. Need to let hubby do it again.

Nycelle it is still a nice messy bun, as if you did it on purpose.

    Thanks, Salwety.

I've been practicing for the last three days and I'm getting better. Having a hard time keeping all the ends tucked under though.
Having a real hair stick wouldn't hurt either. I'm still using chopsticks from take out..lol.

I think that's looking quite nice! The ends are always an issue for me.... I thought of this the other day but forgot to post it - here's another one that has always been easy for me - it looks a little 'messy bun' like but works well!

(...takes a deep breath...) I'm finally ready to join this thread!!! As of mid March, my hair officially reached & surpassed BSL. I never thought it would happen, & it took me a full month of checking & rechecking to accept that it was REAL!!! Now, it is time to set the next goal: reaching WL. Now that I've gotten the 'hang' of babying my hair & pampering my scalp, I'll lose less hair to damage from doing dumb things. Here is my official first (for this new goal) BSL photo: [IMG][/IMG]
