Yesterday, I did a bit of an experiment with 3 French braids going into one, which worked quite well, although it was a bit messy in places, and it killed my arms! I did take some photos, but none of them came out very clearly. I'm going to try it again at some point, with Dutch braids, which I think will be clearer because of the way they sit 'on top of' the hair. Then I took it out in the afternoon because I'd done it uncomfortably tight, and put it in two French braids, joined together at the back of my neck. I discovered I could put the elastic right at the back of my neck, and just pull the ends part through like a pony tail bun. There's a dip just above/between where the braids meet at the back of my head that will be a perfect place to put a bun when my hair gets a bit longer. The hair will sit there nicely, supported by the two braids, and I can put hairsticks through the braids to secure it. I also want to experiment with a 'diagonal' French braid, starting behind my temple on one side, and curving round to behind the other ear. I might need a bit more length to do that, though. It's amazing what you can do in terms of French/Dutch braids, even with very little length.
Last time, I could do a cinnabun at APL just by grabbing the hair, twisting it, and putting crossed hairsticks through it. When it got a bit longer, I needed elastics, hairsticks and pins, and it still fell out!
I discovered yesterday that my hair is well past shoulder when it's wet, so I pulled a bit down to measure - it still curls up, even when it's wet - and it's 1.5" past CBL when it's straight. I hadn't realised that. In its natural state, even calling it shoulder is being a bit generous!
