Hmm... I did some looking back at my previous growth photos and it looks like I'll be hitting APL around February or so. Unless I find the magic hair growth fairy along the way. But I think waiting will be fine, too.
In a grow and cut cycle...
Hi all. I've been lurking here over the past few weeks so thought I should post!
I had to have a big chop in about March 2013 and went down to about 3 inches in length. I'm now finally at 17 inches. Yay!! Without a high degree of accuracy I reckon I've got about 2 or 3 inches to go before I hit APL. I think I've got quite a short neck!
I've found I'm finally able to start doing some proper updos in recent weeks and have bought myself some hairsticks. Very exciting!
I'll post some pics when I get round to it.
Hi everyone. I've been lurking since I chopped my hair. It was waist length and I chopped it to a long A-line bob in April.
The front is maybe an inch from armpit length and the back is a 2 inches or so below shoulder length.
It is honestly the worst hair cut ever to grow out. If I flip all of my hair to the back, it is so uneven it looks like a blind toddler attacked me with scissors. Once I hit APL in the back, I'm gonna chop is all to one length.
My goal is to reach APL all over in four months and BSL in a year, probably not realistic at all but whatever!!![]()
I think my claim to just about reaching APL is going to be short lived. I'll be lucky if I'm not growing out a pixie by the end of this week
I've really put my hair through the ringer this month. I used a colour remover which made my roots ginger and the rest stayed dark, so I put a red colour in over it and of course the top took and the bottom went darker.
Fast forward 2 weeks. I put another dye in trying to even the colour. Then the next day decide I don't like it so used a colour remover again yesterday. Again I have bright ginger roots and my hair at the ends is still very dark but appears to have a ever so slight red tinge in the light, so is not jet black. I'm going to use another colour remover today in the hope of removing a bit more of the dark build up from the bottom. it is SOOOOOO dry now though.
I don't know whether my next step later this week will be to use another red on it, or whether I will bite the bullet and start using henna. I don't want to be orange though and the top of my head is currently ginger and grey. ( I'm naturally very dark brown )
Oh the things we do to our hair even when we know betterI'm sitting here at the moment with a mixture of coconut and castor oil on my head, covered in cling wrap. I really really hope I can salvage this mess.
I just washed the oil out and shampooed and conditioned. Wet my hair feels like jelly, and dry it feels like straw. I still appear to have it all though - it is not noticably falling out or breaking though the ends of both the layers and length feel awful. I feel awful too. I had planned not to trim before December but that won't be working now![]()
I'd try a deep moisture treatment like an SMT before throwing the towel in. I've done my share of hair frying & have found it can take a couple of SMTs & babying (co-wash or low-poo, lots of deep conditioner & oil) to alleviate the straw hair thing when I've done a lot of colour removers or fading or lightening. But it can be done more often than you think! Especially if you do decide to henna, you might be able to salvage the hair enough to trim it out rather than chopping. (Henna is another one of those things to really think on though; it is terrible to get out at all & can lead to more overprocessing if you might later change your mind. Not to dissuade you! Henna is great! But it is such a commitment.)
I'm really sorry your hair is in such a state! I definitely know that feeling when you know you've mad a really bad hair decision when you know better. (I wanted to put a hug smilie here but I can't seem to find on. There is, however, one of Mr. T. Weird. Anyway. **hugs**)
Kaylijade, have you used protein treatments? It's usually recommended for damaged hair. Always follow with moisture treatment, like SMT. Meteor and others have had good success with homemade gelatin treatments, if you don't have possibility to salon quality ones. I've also heared about homemade amino acid treatments (Braggs was the brand, I recall, that was mentioned). (Not sure if market quality protein conditioners have enough kick.)
Note about home made stuff: Things like eggs, milk products, etc have too big a protein size for them to penetrate hair shafts, so those type of home treatments are probably not doing much other than coating hair shafts.

Thanks girls,
We don't have SMT products here that I'm aware of, and I had to just pick something in a rush for my daughter to get me while she is out ( I can't go out in public with my hair like this ) so I chose a Toni&Guy hair mask. Hopefully it will work.
I didn't get around to using the 2nd colour remover yesterday, so will be doing that today, and probably a 3rd tomorrow.
I'm still debating the henna path. The main thing drawing me to it is the people saying it made their hair condition so much better ... that it is like a deep treatment each time they use it. I'm already doing roots every 4 - 6 weeks anyway, so the time factor didn't seem to be a concern. It's only now I'm reading the cons to it. I have a couple of days before I decide regular dye vs henna. First to remove this massive build up of old colour and baby my hair a little![]()
Yep, for sure! I do have a mid-size ficcare and two hair combs, as well. I've never worn them (no clue how to wear a comb) but I could probably start playing with those now. Come to think of it, I'm also growing out my fringe and the comb might be just the thing to keep them out of my face... food for thought![]()
