Eleven, I'm sure you'll get into the calm state of mind too. Yeah, having hobbies helps; LHC is extremely nice place to learn about hair care and to socialize, but it horrible place to sit around and wait your hair to grow

Congrats on soonto-be graduation! Mine is not hopefully too long ahead either, I am aiming for the early autumn!
Illryeth, I have always said that shoulder phase is gruelling, because there is automatically so much mechanical rubbing leading to crappy ends. In nowhere else on your bodies the hair will have to grow past such a obstacle, apart from maybe buttocks, if one grows so long. I think trimming often is important, at least to me it is. What is also important to always stretch the comfort zone a little bit. If you feel you need trimming every 4 weeks, try to do it every 6-8 weeks. But not so long that the ends get really damaged. And always take less that what you grow, to continue gaining length. Keeping your hair up as much as possible helps too.
Oh, and like I think I already mentioned, on my hair what I used to think were bad, damaged ends, turned out to be removable buildup most of the time.
