What type of hair tie/elastic do you use?

I've been looking for a thread about this but I can't seem to find it. Sorry if there already is and I missed it.

Anyway, I've been having a bit of trouble with keeping my braid/s in due to my slippery cloth hair tie. They're a dream to remove, but quite a pain to keep in, and they loose their elasticity so fast. So I'm looking for suggestions on a good hair tie that stays in but isn't a nightmare to remove.

So for those who braid or put their hair up in a ponytail often, what type of hair tie/elastic do you think is best?

I use the 'Ouchless' non-metal elastics from 'Goody'. They work really well to hold braids and they don't slip, plus, they come out rather easily. The only downside, they will stretch out over time, which most hair ties do, but once they stretch out, they're pretty much useless.

I also use the skinny elastics from Goody, they work just fine with no damage to the hair

I use the tiny clear elastics, mainly for securing braid ends or for half-ups. I got a little package of 300 for a couple dollars at the dollar store, so it isn't a big deal if they break or stretch out.

I also like to use tiny clear plastic elastics - they hold exceptionally well, and it doesn't snag on my hair. They also don't add a weird bulkiness to the end of my braids.

Another recommendation for the tiny clear elastics for braid ends or for half-up ponytails. They might not work for full ponytails, though, and you may need to lift a loop and cut or snap it to get them out without snagging depending on your hair texture, but you can get a year's worth of elastics for a dollar or two so it's not super expensive to part with them after one use.

I either use the terrycloth elastics or the "poly" teeny little rubbery ones that are usually black or bright assorted colors. The clear silicone ones eat my hair for whatever reason and they break down fast if you oil your ends anyway, so I don't use those.

me too, and the ouchless goody normal hairbands, but like endlessly said, once they start to stretch out theyre no good any more. And they dont last long on my 4.5" pony. They only start with twice around loosely and end up three around useless. I prefer the mini colored throw-away ones which surprisingly dont snag unless they're clear. [why is that so different?!!]

ALSO wanted to ask the question: if anyone has used ribbon, what kind actually stays put?

Metal free fabric "standard" elastic bands (scucci/boots, cheap ones just go too loose too fast).
Fabric ones (like those for kids, cheapest ones do just fine here).

And as I would not know what to do with shame... I found out that the top of old socks is fantastic hold and super care for wider elastic bands.
(One strand of hair around them or a ribbon and, they even disappear)
