I think I can also avoid damage more but that is probably also because I became more gentle with my hair. It was really good overall I suppose but keep in mind it slowed me down a lot. I still havent reached waist again

It felt sooooooo awesome to FINALLY have a good solid hairline when i did the chop to BSL, I LOVED it. Hair grows so its not like you will be stuck there forever but you WILL grow it out evenly and it will feel great It did for me anyway

Thank you ladies! You've set up my mind! Hemline is more important then the length at this moment, sure it's nice to have hair that is 72 cms long but it's perhaps only half the hair that actually is! Thank you for sharing your stories of this matter, it's always easier to make a decision if you ask around first!

I'll be doing a trim this saturday after work It's the full moon as well and I kinda like to trim at those just for the sake of it, oh it's even supposed to be a lunar eclipse at that date - that will make the walk with the dogs at night even more beautiful! I will get back to you with pictures and an update ^^ Now I can hardly wait! Think I'll cut a very slight U-shape to even it all out and see how that feels, and later on in december cut a totally blunt hemline if I want to
Happily growing my way to as far as it goes!

Redtuss, my hemline is similar to yours right now. So frustrating, and so hard to decide whether to chop or not! Should I cut an inch or here and there, microtrim regularly, or just let it grow? Gah!

I chopped off my layers in 2011, went from this to this and I was VERY happy with my decision. The only downside was that I had to have my hair longer to be able to do some buns, it was harder with blunt ends. But in all honestly I still have natural taper layers in my hair which come out from my braids, they never stay neat more than a few minutes. To me it sounds like you want to get rid of your layers redtuss, so just do it. Do what makes you happy. It's your hair, you should enjoy it.

redtuss and others, you ladies are making me think about trimming away my layers too. I just reached BSL about a month ago, so my hair is probably about an inch below BSL right now (my hair right now is at the longest it's been). My first layer is about 2" shorter than my hemline and my shortest layer is about an inch above APL. In July I started a thread about trimming as at that time it had been six-seven months since my trim and already then I was thinking of trimming my layers to get my hair back to one length. Now, all of your stories and redtuss's thoughts of trimming off the layers in her hair (I'm not blaming anyone here) are getting me tempted to trim away the layers in my hair. I don't know what I want to do as it would be nice to keep the length (and it took me about a year to get from APL to BSL, with two trims). At the same time, though, it would be nice to get my hair back to being all one length as I remember my hair was much thicker before I had layers cut into my hair. So, I need the help of you ladies to figure this out. Any thoughts, opinions, or help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your hair looks sooo thick and rich in the after shot and thank you for the welcome . I have had layers for many years but also had a blunt hairline as well and i much prefer the blunt hairline because this way, getting a trim is much more effective and it feels and looks so much better for me anyway. Cheers.

I was much more excited to go on the journey of growing my hair long with the hairline of my dream rather then with something i didnt really want. I had lots and lots of layers in my hair back in 2012 and at first i thought that length was much more important to me but each time i looked in the mirror, my hair looked so horrible to me. It didnt look rich and full and healthy, i couldnt stand those wispy layers going in all direction or how thin the ends looked so i made the decission one day (in May that year) to cut it ALL off to where my longest layer reaches which was at shoulder length. As much as i really didnt like any of the length my hair grew to during that time, i was sooooooooooo HAPPY to see my rich hair being soo thick and i couldn’t get enough of the awesome one length hairline i finally get to have so fast forward to today, I'm at BSL (I dont like this length either haha), my hair feels amazing and i cant wait to have it at my dream lengths which is waist and beyond . My advice is think about what’s important and if the sacrifice is worth that decision, i know that no matter how drastic my cut was, i was happy to see my hair healthy and rich rather than thinned out and hard to control the split ends. Cheers.

Tini, thank you for your reply. I sometimes feel that because of the layers, some of my hairs start going in different directions at the ends. I just looked at the picture of my hair I took when I first joined this thread, and I can see the ends not being as thick. When I squeeze the moisture out of my hair before putting conditioner into my hair in the shower and before I'm ready to blot the moisture out of my hair with the towel, i can definitely feel the difference between my longest layer and my hemline. I do think it would be nice to grow out my hair to waist length also. With my hair being finer than yours (it's probably more fine than medium-fine), I haven't really noticed split ends in my hair as I think my hairs start to break before they get split ends. Overall though I would say that my hair is pretty healthy as in my teenage years I was allowed to blow dry my hair when I didn't have enough time before bed to air dry or had to go somewhere before it was fully dry by air drying, and since joining LHC the only times I have had my hair heat styled was during the two trims I have had since and about the only that might be in my hair would be from the UV from not wearing a hat when I am in the sun. I will try to post an updated picture of my hair.

Ladies, please feel to keep the replies coming. They could really help me figure out all of this and decide what to do with my hair finally.
