Sharysa, I was just looking at your Cat Stark's twist-plus-braid hairstyle in the braid picture thread. So pretty! Is the top a two piece twist on each side & then join it into a regular braid?

    If you haven't see it.....http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...45350&page=467

Crumpet I'm with you. I'm calling elbow waist from now on. In which case, i'm barely there length wise. But I go in tomorrow for a trim & that may make me short of the goal again. At this point, it's a good thing I've sworn off major cuts until after the new year because my hair is driving me crazy lately. Ah well, at least all those hairsticks I've bought are getting a public viewing finally

jlb -- I'm glad someone else has an elbow waist! I think I'm close but I want it to be solid before I declare it. No trims for me until January (same as you for cuts). I'm also doing lots of updos. Whenever I get antsy about my hair I buy a new hairtoy...this could get expensive!

Thanks for the compliment and the help, Squiggy! 1C/2A does sound pretty close to what I have. It seems the underside is decidedly more wurly than the top layers of hair, probably due to my love of combing.

It's very tempting to proclaim myself a curly blonette, but in all honesty I have to admit I'm probably more of a wavy brunette. I'm surprised with all the red coming out in my ashy hair now that the sun has been at it all summer, I really like the toffee tints it gives my hair. Although had I protected it from the sun more vigorously it'd probably be in better shape overall.

FireFromWithin, it was kind of a shock as far as trims go but I'm glad to hear that it's worked out for you. Hopefully I'll manage to take good care of my ends and will reach waist without more major trims. It would have felt like cheating to call waist with my hair in the condition it was before the trim!

inanna, nice trim. Your hair doesn't look that much shorter and it does look thicker. Maybe now you can just do dusting s when you feel you really need to.

Ok, does anyone else just fail at measuring hair length? I try to only measure once a month so that I don't become super obsessive crazy, but I can't seem to get consistent results. For instance, I can measure three times in a row and the three measurements can vary by up to an inch. Why am I so challenged? I think I will just give up measuring and go by feel/look, instead of getting frustrated at my poor tape measure skills.

Do you guys measure? Am I the only one so challenged?

Me too! The crease of my elbow is still about an inch below waist. Of course I have the strange combination of a very high waist and incredibly gangly arms.

Me three! I'm short, high waisted, and my elbows are definitely past waist.

Yep, me too. Getting SOOO close. In the shower when my hair is soaking wet, I'm solidly at waist. So... not long now. :-) I plan to have my mom take a look at it around Christmas time and do a dusting if need be. No trims before then! I also know what you mean about getting antsy and buying new hairtoys... I'm trying so hard to be good. Luckily, one of my favorite etsy shops is here http://www.etsy.com/shop/cuteandcree...f=pr_faveshops where there are a bajillion bows for $5 and under. I like to accent buns with these little gems and clip them at the end of braids. If you like this kind of thing Crumpet, consider me an enabler.

Thanks, Komao! I was thinking of trying to learn Feye's self-trimming method at some point, so I'll probably experiment with doing small trims myself a few times a year if nothing drastic happens. My husband kindly offered to cut my hair for me, but I remember what my hair looked like back when mom would comb it flat against my back in the sauna and then just snip away, so I'm not sold on the idea yet.

I haven't even tried measuring my hair, because going by approximations of where it hits is so easy. I have some additional personal mini-milestones such as "covers my tattoo" or "gets caught in armpits". Charming, I know!

I did my first egg mask protein treatment today - my hair doesn't seem all that different, except it's gotten a lot fluffier! :P
