I ended up just dyeing my ends pink and have it all out of my system now :

    I love your ends!
When my hair is longer I am totally doing that hehe..

When I used to dye my hair red, it was an absolute pain because it faded so quickly, and my hair isn't as dark as yours so I "had" to keep dyeing it... soo much damage, blegh.

I want stories! Did anyone here take the plunge and dye your virgin hair? Do you regret it? It would take me 4-5 years to grow it back out so it's a big decision.
    I wouldn't.

Red hair color often fades into a nasty, brassy orange.

On top of that, some red hair colors just suck. I've had red colors turn my hair pink and orange before. Even ones that turn out a red hair color sometimes look very fake.

Once you color your hair drastically different than your natural hair.. you're going to always be coloring it.

Your roots will grow in dark, then you're coloring your hair over and over again to touch up the roots.

Then, you'll always have to keep touching up roots, or let your natural hair grow back in... leaving you with brassy red strands and dark roots. Not a nice look.

I don't think it's worth it, especially not for red.

Red "highlights" might be a better option.
At least those are easier to let fade and grow out.

Maybe you could just color the tips red.
