How do you guys take length shots by yourself? Mine just don't make sense... And I'd rather do them by myself, as I'm sure to get funny looks if I ask for help.
My sis insists that I have 4 inches to go to APL, but my DBF says it's only 2. And he's a guy, so he's probably better at estimating distances! That would mean I'll get APL by the end of the year![]()

I haven't posted much for months but am back now, and think I'm ready to graduate to the APL-BSL thread.
This is from July 14. October 2011 I had it cut from waist to my shortest shoulder-ish layer.
I'm so glad to have reached this mini-goal and also so glad that I can do more buns now.

Hi everyone! I've been growing out a pixie for a year and two months now and I hit shoulder sometime in the last couple of months but wasn't totally sure I got there until I verified with this length shot yesterday:
I'm really excited to have graduated to this thread! There are so many beautiful heads of hair here! wooliswonderful, I am blown away by your beautiful length and color. I love some of the tucked braid styles on previous pages, too. I can't wait until I can get my hair into a french braid. It's still too short and given that my hair is very thick, it may be too short for a long time. I just wear it down most days but I would love the insurance of being able to put it up on bad hair days. I have some questions about styles: did you find that you could use hair forks before (on short hair) hairsticks, or are hairsticks the better option? Any tips for updos on shoulder-APL thick hair? I've been twisting my hair a half turn and gathering it into a swept up clump with a large claw clip. It's kind of like a peacock twist but with a claw clip because there's no way I could get all my hair to fit in a flat clip like that. However, now even the claw clip is not big enough to hold all of my hair ever since the front pieces grew long enough to be swept up with the back. This was my go-to style and now I don't know what to do! Any tips on styles or hair toys that I could use? Thank you!
There's a lot in that quote. Awesome and glad you are here on this thread. Your hair looks pretty thick, like you have a lot of it! It looks like mine a bit, I think, but maybe thicker. I have really loved using forks, and do it with a peacock twist. If you click on my name you can see me use a fork with a peacock twist on my profile picture. One thing that you might really like also are the flexi-8 barrettes.
I have made this comment before several pages back, but there's a version of the peacock twist that I found works very well with forks and sticks. I learned in on the flexi-8 website in the styling videos section, and it's called the up and down. You take the top of the hair that you would normally leave alone as you are finishing a peacock twist, and you loop it in on itself. That top loop is a good place to insert a fork or sticks.
You may PM me any time you want more help.
I was going to say a peacock twist with a fork also. French twist also should be doable. In general I'd say forks are easier than sticks. No specific advice on thick hair though as mine is on the thin side.
Going for terminal, but also enjoying wearing my hair down and curly.
I also find that forks work better than sticks at this length. I can get sticks to hold but my hais really has to be in the right mood for it, I can't really on sticks at this lengthForks always hold though, today I have a cinnabun held with a three-pronged fork. It doesn't really look like a cinnabun because my layers have just exploded out at the top but you get the gist anyway.

I have thick-ish hair, forks are definitely easier. Although I can manage to use hair sticks on french twists and cinnabuns!
I mainly wear braids or I just leave it loose on cooler days. I hate the heat.
