palaeoqueen: I'm using the leave in conditioner from toadstool soap on etsy.com. It has jojoba as one of the main ingredients. You can get it scented with many different yummy scents. I love vanilla sandalwood. She has trial size too.

She has the leave in for everyday and a deep conditioner for 2 times a week or so. I love all her products. Not a bad one that i've tried yet.

Have you tried her shampoos? It sounds like they're oil-based, which I'm very curious about. So many of the scents sound wonderful, I'll struggle to narrow it down! I'm just hoping international shipping isn't astronomical (though not her fault of course if it is) as I can't justify the cost if it's very high

I never would have thought of it either until someone insisted that I try it. Honestly, I thought it was going to be gross but somehow it works!

If you feel like treating yourself to some truly amazing lavender oil, I can highly recommend Eden Botanical's high elevation French lavender. They used to have a henna (not related to hair dye henna... it's a totally different plant but I can't remember the other name for it) that was TDF but I don't see it listed

Aaaah thank you for the link! I'm so glad they have a sample size for only 3$! I definitely will be ordering some to try with my coconut oil. Plus i've been wanting to infuse my vinegar rinses with some oil and this may be the one! It's sooo nice that you are resourceful when it comes to treatments!

Oh yeah I have a photobucket account filled with cuties left over from the days when I used to use myspace and people would constantly post a lot of cute stuff on my page. It used to be a form of communication back then, alas, the "bling-bling" phase seems to have disappeared since facebook took over.

tinfoilsally, bunnysaur - Yay physics people! I'm in the middle of my exams right now, though I took a semester "off," so I don't have any physics related classes this semester. Got my chem exam done yesterday, am about to sit down to my online geology exam, and then I have bio on Tuesday. And I would be all about a physics students support group!

On a hair related note, I discovered today that my hair is just long enough to do a seashell bun held with a stick, and a twisty variation on a flipped bun held with a Flexi-8. Neither of them really look like much yet, but I'm so excited to have more options. Even better, my layers are long enough now to stay tucked away for the most part, and the seashell bun held perfectly through a pretty crazy shift at work. Now I just need to convince myself not to buy anymore hair sticks until I get paid again...

I was playing around with my hair this morning and took a picture of my attempt at an English braid. I thought I'd share it for humor value, because it basically amounts to one "bump":

This is with my hemline a bit over 1" away from APL, and my shortest layer at shoulder. And this is as long a braid as I can make before the shortest layers start poking out.

And *that's* why I can do so few updos before waist.

Bunnysaur: I think applewood is a great choice. What shape top are you thinking of?

I'm going to get the kinda squiggly top. The apple wood piece they had wasn't big enough, so I'm getting yellow heart instead.

I like the idea so far of using pins. I'll have to remember to get an extra set of Amish pins next time I plan on making a trip to visit Amish town (I can send them to you if you like, still don't know when I'll visit though). I still need to do that since there are so many of these towns here in Northern New England. I also like your other idea of using headbands. I think you can easily find a nice one!

I woke up 15 minutes before my shift and couldn't find them I'm planning to do a bun today (oh god, I had such a stupid long shift that I have work "today" now) if I can manage it.

Not trying to be the obnoxious school marm here but essential oils are the volatile oils from plants. These are the smelly oils like lavender, rosemary, orange, jasmine, etc that you have to dilute in a carrier oil like coconut, argan, jojoba, etc. Just trying to avoid confusion! Usually people use carrier oils in their hair although I know some people who use essential oils (some times straight!) in their hair. Rosemary and lavender have a history of being used for hair care in Europe and there is a whole world of Indian herbs... so much fun stuff to play with!

Also, EO's can irritate skin when used undiluted, so be sure to do be careful

Thanks, Bunnysaur! I'm looking forward to having enough length to have *2* bumps in my braid. Regarding your updos, what does your work think about octopus clips? My go-to professional updo is pulling my hair back in a ponytail, twisting it around like a cinnabun, and then encaging (is that a word? I guess it is now) the whole bun in the octopus clip. The bun just barely fits in there and probably won't fit at all once I'm past APL, but I'm hoping another inch or so will finally enable me to do a French twist properly.

rowie, funny you should mention French braids -- a single French braid is my standard protective updo for sleeping. I can also make two English braids, one on each side, that have about 2 "bumps" each, but I don't find that as comfortable for sleeping. French braids are great for thick hair and layers.

I went into claire's today to get some updo-stuff, and i found that they had a buy 3, get 1 free action going on so i went and got some things that i think i needed
Nothing fancy, just some clear elastics, black bobby pins and a hair donut. I hope the donut works better than my rolled-up sock, because that just wasn't working for me but i can stick bobby pins in the donut to make it more secure so i think it might work out .
Right now i'm in a challenge with myself to only redo my updo/braid twice, at most three times, a day. So once in the morning, once after working out and once at night to put a sleepbraid/bun in. I just tend to keep rebraiding/reupdoing (is that a word??) my hair so that putting it in a braid/updo isn't really a protective style anymore.

Mega I'm thinking of ordering some flexi8 now that you showed us your beautiful pieces to come. Are they super comfortable? I think I'll order a really plain one just to try it out on securing my cinnabun. I'll probably order the same size as you since we probably have similar hair textures. Did you buy the mega doughnut they have at Claire's?
