Well, this is the updated picture (from today) and sorry for the messy wave haha. I had it in a ponytail the whole day. This is shoulder length... right??

Just measured and it's at 18 inches! It has grown an inch since I last measured, which was in January, but I can't remember what day in January!

So I thought it might encourage us all to talk about our hair strategy for getting to APL!

I have lots of highlights and lots of grey and loads of long layers. So my plan is as follows:

*have it dyed back to my natural light brown colour (on Feb 26th! Excited about this!)

*Start hennaing to hide greys as the dye grows out. There aren't quite enough to let it go grey. That's what I'll do when a little more goes.

*enjoy being a redhead for the first time :-D

*Wait until APL and maintain it at that length until all the layers have been trimmed out, before pushing on to BSL!!

    Tell us about your strategy!

It sounds like you'll have no problem enjoying your journey to APL! And your hair is looking really healthy from what I can see, too.

I'm just about at APL, but my strategy still stands:

-wear it up every day (actually, I'm currently doing an up-for-100-days challenge to teach myself benign neglect)
-bring my shampoo and conditioner places when I stay overnight somewhere else
    -detangle veeeery gently
    -learn more updos
-practice only measuring/taking pictures once a month

This routine is what I'll be following til I get to BSL, because that (for me) is the worst part of the hair growing journey.

Welcome to the thread neverever, congrats on reaching shoulder length!

My strategy for getting to APL is the same one I had last year:
    - don't trim for the whole year to gain maximum length
    - treat hair gently, keep it properly moisturized, and avoid doing damage so I can go for a whole year without trimming and maintain my ends in good shape
    - try my best to enjoy the journey and stop treating it like a race (this is the hardest part)

I'm growing out an old cut, so the front of my hair is definitely shoulder length, but the back is just a bit shorter. I'm oiling the ends to make sure they stay healthy. I might trim in about a month, depending on how it looks.

I'm almost at APL now too -- probably by end of next month I'll be there. But I usuallly....:

    1) monthly henna/cassia
    2) megatek & heavy oiling 1x week
    3) wash every 2 to 4 days -- use scrunching/gel for wave & air dry
    4) wear up about 5 days/week

and that's it. It'll probably stay that way, too.
