Longhair forever?

Having spent some time on LHC I have watched people grow long but also cut short or disappeared from the boards.

I know we all share the same goal, but who here thinks it will be forever? A long time?
And who can imagine going back to shorter hair not too long from now? Getting bored?

You feel the urge for change:
Not a big change. I cut off 5" last year and was happy with that small change but now I'm growing it back again. I've done changes in the past and never once maintained a new length. I've always started growing again immediately. That should tell me something.

Do you like shorter styles?
Yes but only on other people.

What could be a reason for you to cut?
Thin ends, too much taper, or my hair gets to an annoying length. I'd never cut it short but I would cut a few inches off.

And what reason do you have to keep it long?
I love it long and I can't think of a single reason to have short hair. Having long hair makes me happy.

Bottom Line:
I can't see ever going above the longer side of mid back. I think long hair is ageless. I plan to have long hair forever if I can.

Starting Length?: Blunt at shoulders
Current Length?: high tailbone
Goal Length?: Not sure yet. I'd like to have at least fingertip with nice ends, but I can be happy with anything from about tailbone on.

How long have you been growing?
2004 was the big shoulder-length cut, decided to actively grow past BSL around 2006.

You feel the urge for change:
Not really. I waver on how I want my hemline, but I like how long feels.

Do you like shorter styles?
I haven't been shorter than shoulder since I was a toddler. It's not for me, though I can appreciate that super-short would be fun for about a week.

What could be a reason for you to cut?
If it gets super thin when I get old, such that I have a lot of scalp showing, I might take most of it off and reach for scarves or wigs.

And what reason do you have to keep it long?
I feel feminine and a bit untamed with it loose, and sleek and professional with it up. It feels very very "me" to have long hair.

Bottom Line:
I love it long, and while I don't attach my identity to it (yet, anyway), I'm staying this way. I want to have seriously long white hair one day.

Current Length?: 4 fingerwidths past waist
Goal Length?: I'm not sure.

How long have you been growing?
I've always had long hair. However, I got it cut to
shoulder length in 2004 and have been growing it
ever since... oops, forgot I got it cut again in 2006 but not
as short... just don't remember to what length.

You feel the urge for change:
I"m getting a change: it's going white!

I'm also having to deal with significant thinning in front.
Treating my hypothyroidism stopped my shedding but doesn't seem to be
correcting the thinning/hair loss issue so I'm going to have to try some
other things to fix it. Losing my hair is scarey!

but the change I crave is to have my curls back. I permed for
20 years and Loved it. since I did it only about once a year and
didn't do anything else damaging my hair tolerated it just fine.
I miss my waves and my bounce...

Do you like shorter styles?
Yes but only on other people. I definitely do not
look good in short hair.

What could be a reason for you to cut?
Thin ends, too much taper, or it gets so long that I decide a shorter length (tailbone? hip? waist?) is nicer to deal with. I'd never cut it short but I would cut a few inches off.

And what reason do you have to keep it long?
I like long hair. It's much more versatile than short hair.
You can do so much more with it.
It's also much easier to deal with than short hair. It's sexy!

If I cut it short what would I do with my hair sticks, forks and ficcares??? Nope, can't cut it. LOL

Bottom Line:
I doubt my hair will ever be shorter than waist length again but surprises happen. I just can't imagine it. I plan on being an old woman with really long hair. I can't wait to do some of the styles that you need really long hair for!!

You feel the urge for change:
No, I cut it off in 2004 and felt like I was missing something. It took me less than a week to regret my choice and start growing it back.

Do you like shorter styles?
Not on me

My or my partners health

I feel like I am missing a body part when its short. I like the way it feels as it drapes on my back. I also like the way it looks.

Starting length: on my neck, longest strand from the top measured 5 inches.
Present length: passing tailbone.
Goal length: Classic, thigh length.

Since 2001 = 8 years.

Only when my hair is being bratty.

Yes, but I've had them all.

What could be a reason for you to cut?
I'm too old and decrepit and senile to take care of it by myself (or very ill).

And what reason do you have to keep it long?
I like long hair the best. I got all the hair cuts and perms and colors that I wanted to try out of my system before I began to grow my hair long.

Bottom Line:
I can't believe I wanted so long to grow my hair out! It's so pretty (in-between times of being absolutely awful, of course).

On ooccasion. More in the way of color than length. Though, that does flit through my mind sometimes.

I remember being happy with shoulder length, though I don't like seeing that length on me in pictures.

What could be a reason for you to cut?
Thin ends. Needing to break away from who I have been and try something new.

And what reason do you have to keep it long?
Because I like my long hair. I enjoy all the pretty updos I can do. And, I like being different from everyone around me.

Bottom Line:
I've been thinking about this a great deal lately. I'm only 23 and I don't know what the rest of my life will bring. There's no telling what I will do with my hair for the rest of my life, so I won't kid myself by calling myself a life-long longhair. But, for now it is what I like and a part of who I am. I don't see myself cutting in the next year other than trimming.

Starting Length?: It was one of those angled chin bob, stacked in the back things when I started. Oh and I had bangs
Current Length?: It hits the middle of my bra strap, about 26.5"

I last got a "styled" cut in the summer of 2006 I think and decided to grow it all out about 2 weeks after. Joined LHC in March 2008 (almost a year ago!) when I realized I could grow my "OMG thin" hair longer then BSL.

You feel the urge for change:
Mostly change in color.

Do you like shorter styles?
Yea, they can be cute (I do like the angled bobs) and I did like how when my hair was short it wouldn't tangle and I could do anything to it and it never looked unhealthy. I didnt like how bowling ball like my head looked though.

What could be a reason for you to cut?
I could see me cutting it back to BSL or waist if I don't like it at hip or TBL or if the taper is just too bad and I cant improve it.

And what reason do you have to keep it long?
The majority of my life I have had my hair long (long in real life NOT LHC) and I think I just look better with long hair. I also am lazy and really bad at getting my hair trimmed every month which is needed when you have a fashion cut. I also like the attention I get when people see my "long" hair (most people around me are APL so BSL is looong).

Bottom Line:
I cant say I will have long hair forever but I think it is likely I will have long hair for a long time. Who knows when I am a little old lady, maybe I'll get the "old lady do" or maybe I'll be the hippy lady with long white hair.
