The catnip.....A month maybe. The dry ends in my back are not as bad. The damaged areas in my canopy are softer. The spot in the back of my head that always ALWAYS no matter what I did would be dry and frizzy is not so much anymore. Is there room for more improvement? Yes, but I'm THOROUGHLY impressed by the improvement I've gotten thus far.

Wonderful! Almost 4 years in and I still see improvement, lol, and I have been very happy with "as is", over the last year, but improvement is always good.
The one thing I do not have, and have not had with catnip, is a downside.

eta my new avatar is dried after washing with DW, a second wash with catnip, and a catnip treatment for conditioner.
rymorg2, thanks for your insight. I have some DW on order but it seems delivery takes awhile. In the meantime, I am doing CO with VO5 Strawberries and Cream followed up by a catnip rinse. My hair is definitely getting softer and easier to manage but I do put a DIY leave-in based on Fox's recipe on damp hair.
It, along with catnip, has really helped make taking care of my hair much, much easier. No longer do I have to heavily apply oils, gels, etc. to keep it under control. So, catnip has definitely improved things for me significantly!
Can you comment on how you do a 2nd wash (shampoo) w/catnip? Do you simply pour it on your scalp and let it sit? I believe that's how ktani does it.

I am glad to hear that it is working well for you.
When I do a catnip "shampoo" I just apply it, work it through my hair and scalp, and rinse it out right away, with no timing at all, http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...&postcount=918. It can be confusing to keep it all straight, lol. There are now new terms to go with catnip, catnip "shampoo" and catnip CO, and then there is the regular catnip treatment. All of them are different.
catnip "shampoo": - straight catnip applied to hair, post regular shampoo (or on its own), worked through hair and scalp and rinsed out, with no bagging or timing, in keeping with a conventional shampoo.
catnip "CO": straight catnip applied to hair, left on the hair and scalp for a while and rinsed out, in keeping with a traditional CO.
catnip treatment: straight catnip applied to the hair, bagged and timed (recommended time, 1 hour).

YW. :D Yes, it takes awhile to get it, which means I need to reorder. LOL...I'm glad you've seen some improvement with catnip!
As for my routine, here's what I do....
1. First wash with DW, diluted in a squirt bottle. I put a little blob of DW in the bottle and dilute it with a few oz of water and squirt it over my head, massage, rinse. No timing. Occasionally I'll add a little more water to the DW on my head straight from the shower head to help lathering.
2. Second wash with catnip...I apply the catnip mostly to my scalp, let it drip through the rest, massage, rinse. No timing.
3. Catnip treatment...I squeeze out the excess water first. Usually I do that prior to my catnip wash too. Turn my head over, apply catnip everywhere, flip my hair over, and use a plastic cap to bag it. I usually bag it for an hour, though occasionally I'll do more or less. Then rinse my hair, with a final rinse of distilled water. Then air dry.
HTH!

Thanks, ktani. You're right, it's tough to keep it all straight! Here's a close-up of my hair yesterday. It is really looking healthy, calm and beautiful.

Your hair looks great!
I think that you may find that you can get way with less conditioner as you go and maybe even give it up altogether. One step at a time. It is what you are happiest with that counts.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Thanks again, rymorg2. That's very helpful and now, even though ktani has explained it before (LOL), it's finally sinking in. :) Once I get my DW, I'll dilute it as you do and try out your routine for cleansing.
ktani, you're right, I might fore go conditioners in the future. It would be great to whittle down the products to just DW and catnip! Oh, thanks for the nice compliment, as well.

You are most welcome!
Re: Catnip for split ends?
New catnip terminology
catnip "shampoo": - straight catnip applied to hair, post regular shampoo (or on its own), worked through hair and scalp and rinsed out, with no bagging or timing, in keeping with a conventional shampoo.
catnip "CO": straight catnip applied to hair, left on the hair and scalp for a while and rinsed out, in keeping with a traditional CO.
catnip treatment: straight catnip applied to the hair, bagged and timed (recommended time, 1 hour).
Note: I massage my scalp when I shampoo, whether it is catnip or Sunsilk shampoo, to remove dead skin and help circulation. I believe that it is a necessary part of shampooing. I use the pads of my fingers, and do not do this too long but long enough to help make sure my scalp stays healthy.
