Re: Catnip for split ends?
Gilly
Be patient with catnip. You are getting the benefit though of my struggles with it to get it to the point that it works so well for me.
From the first time I used it, even with the wrong dilution as it turned out, and the wrong optimal timing, I did notice a difference in my hair.
If you have any questions, just post or pm me anytime. That goes for anyone else too.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Dear Ktani,
What problems or disadvantages did you notice when not washing the catnip out? I am about to try catnip for the first time soon, but with my lifestyle it seems so much more tempting to apply it as a leave-in rather than having to wait around for an hour or so and then getting the hair all wet again.
Should that not work, too?
Thanks!

I do not like leave-ins. My hair felt tacky fully saturated with catnip as a leave-in but not so with just a bit applied to hair as I did this last time. My hair felt and looked oily this time but was in need of a wash in any case. I just decided to apply a bit to the top of my hair.
My best results are when the catnip is on freshly washed wet hair and bagged for the hour that it is on my hair.
Applying it on dry hair as a leave-in did not colour or condition as well.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Well last night I brewed my catnip tea (I used Cosmic catnip!) let it cool and strained it, I could not wait until the morning as my scalp was itching and annoying me so off I trotted to the shower, I shampoo'd with Alchemy unscented shampoo and then dumped the catnip on, I bagged it and wrapped it in a towel and left it for an hour, I rinsed it off and straight away noticed a difference, I did get some slip, not as much as I would get from my Terax but I was ok with it. I thought that I would give it a good test so did not use conditioner after and left it to air dry, it felt great!! :cheese: Soft to the ends, no itch, great result.
This morning when I woke up it had done its crazy thing and would not lie down properly so I hopped in the shower and did a sort of WO wash then dumped the last bit of the catnip tea from last night onto it and left it while I showered, then rinsed and again did not use conditioner, I could comb through with no problem using a shower comb, I lightly blow dried it on warm from a good distance away and it looks great today and feels so silky!
I am very happy with this and am hopeful that it will help my scalp, normally shampoos seem to work for about a week then I start itching again
Thank you so much for your research and struggles, I really apprecate all that you have done for us Ktani :flowers::rockerdud

You are most welcome.
Now for a special treat. Wash your face with it and use it on your hands. Not need to leave it on for a time - just apply and rinse. It is not meant to replace soap for your hands, just hand cream.
I do not use moisturizer or hand cream, just catnip.
If you get it in your eyes - no worries it is supposed to be good as an eye wash. I have no idea what an eye wash is by the way, lol.
I did scratch the corner skin of my eye area and applied cold catnip from the fridge - instant relief- it took the redness and discomfort away and it was not just because it was cold. It made a difference.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Wow, interesting! I'll have to wrestle some catnip away from my kitty to try this...
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Ok I think I am onto something here!
I put some catnip tea on my head after shampooing this morning and left it on till I had finished my shower then rinsed it out.
I asked my hubby to have a look at my scalp last night and he said it was looking sore and dry, I asked him again this evening and he said "blimey, its nearly cleared up" I was amazed, he told me that compared to what it was like last night to now it looks heaps better and he reckons that it will be gone pretty soon, this is amazing for me as I have had this horrid scabby itch patch on my head for ages and I think that I may finally be able to get rid of it!!! :cheese:
My hair is also feeling pretty nice, I have not used conditioner yet as I have had no problems combing it with a wide comb when I get out of the shower.
Just thought I would update you all and I would recommend that you have a go.

From the research I have done on catnip, it is stated to be a specific for scalp irritation. IMO, it is amazing!

He could not believe the difference, I specifically asked him before I did my first treatment to get a good idea on how it is working and he is very impressed with it :cheese:
I, of course am very happy that I am itching much less, just occasionally which I can live with compared to scratching like a dog with fleas!!
I am getting my trim today so I will be able to keep a check on how it will grow out.
