Catnip flowers contain more oil than the leaves - that is why it is better to use both.
When you buy it at the pet store, what you get in most cases, and what I have always used, is cut and sifted, dried, leaves and flowers.

When I first read about catnip on these boards, it was under "for growth and shine"
My hairline has filled in on the sides at the top and my hair growth is excellent.
I love catnip!
I've been really happy with my hair after using the catnip tea rinse, except for one thing, it tangles so much more than usual...looks and feels great though! I'm hoping after using it for a couple of weeks the tangle problem will go away, anyone think thats likely to happen?

I have less tangles with catnip than I ever had with conditioner, with wet and dry hair.
It took a while for that to happen because I had build-up on my hair when I first used catnip.
And catnip does not work that well over conditioner, or did not for me in any case.
I think that you will find that you need less conditioner, if you still use it and that you will get less tangles as you continue to use catnip.
do an S&D every few days, but don't have many split ends, but i want to try this to prevent them.... the only thing is, i have almost black hair, and i'm wondering if the catnip stains hair or if it dyes hair?
i'd like to keep my natural color and am afraid that this will change it
also, i'd like to know if i try this and rinse it out, could i do an AVC to finish off the whole routine?

Catnip stains a light blonde - I doubt that it would show on your dark hair or change it - the colour washes out in any case.
Catnip contains acetic acid - which is what vinegar is - only much more concentrated.
Catnip is naturally acidic on it own.
IMO - you need nothing to follow it after it is rinsed out.
okie, thank you :)
Thanks Ktani, I didn't use conditioner because I was afraid the catnip wouldn't penetrate it, but I do have henna on my hair, that could be causing a conflict also maybe. Aside from the tangle problem, my hair looks really good, its curly, fine, and has a tendance to frizz...with the catnip it seemed thicker and less frizz...and we've had high humidity here too, which is usually a real killer on my hair. I really really like it. :)
