I agree that it can if not removed with shampoo each time. In over 5 years of using it though, I have never once needed anything stronger than my regular shampoo to remove enough of it not to be a problem (not all of the stain washes out each time but the coating does).
It does depend on how it is used in my experience. Sunsilk Lively Blonde Shampoo is not a clarifying shampoo. It removed the build-up I had on my hair prior to catnip very slowly, while I still used catnip. I washed my hair back then twice a week. I still use the same shampoo.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I have been experimenting with catnip for a couple of weeks now.
I make the tea with the 1 teaspoon/300 ml of water (per ktani) and let it steep til cool. Then I strain it and use it as a wash. I wet my hair and then dunk my ends in the tea and then slowly pour the rest over my hair and massage my scalp for a minute or so then rinse with water and I actually see some foam come out!
This has been working really well for me. However after I rinse the catnip out of my hair I really need to use a very diluted ACV rinse (1 tsp ACV/liter water) or my scalp is a little itchy and my hair is not shiny - and i can see a tiny bit more foam and sometimes a filmy looking stuff in the water when i rinse out the ACV!!! Maybe the catnip that has collected the dirt and oil and the ACV is rinsing it out?
I have also tried it as a conditioner after a poo bar. This didn't work as well for me. It seemed to make my hair dryer than just putting it on for a moment and rinsing it out after scrubbing my scalp does. Wonder why this is?
I did an ACV rinse before I used the catnip and then one after - but they were very diluted.
I have also tried using the catnip pre-wash instead of oil - and left on for at least 30 minutes and then rinsed and wash with my poo bar and then the ACV. This works great too!
So catnip has definitely found a place in my hair care regimen!!!
I have had 2 kinds of catnip so far - the organic bulk from the health food store and now organic packaged from the pet store. I can't tell any difference between the 2 except maybe the pet store stuff brews up a little greener in color rather than yellow. The health food store catnip brewed up very yellow.
I also tried making a triple batch - 3 teaspoons - 900 ml water - and using this to wash - but it seemed more drying actually - like too cleansing!!! the 300 ml with 1 teaspoon is actually strong enough to wash my hair!
The first time I used it I had over oiled and didn't expect that it would budge the extra oil and it did!!!

I do a CWC type routine (I just try not to get any shampoo at all on the length) with catnip.
After I wash my hair I rinse it very thouroughly, and then dunk/soak it in catnip tea for 5-10 minutes, rinse again, and then put on my final conditioner (which I leave in.)
Even though I don't keep it on very long, the catnip does make my hair noticeably softer and more well behaved/less tangly.

Thank haibane, I will try this
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Oooh,I can't wait to really read through this thread. I bought a bag of catnip seeds about a month ago with all of my other herb seeds to get started on an indoor container garden. I got them for my cats then remember it was good for my hair too! My catnip is just past the seedling stage now and growing strong.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Ktani: i was reading about the catnip and is that for women that have lighter coloured hair? would the use of it turn brown hair to a different colour?

The colour is light blonde - it should not affect darker shades of hair noticeably.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I just realized tonight that I've had this sitting in my house for quite awhile.
http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/ite...percatnipspray
"carefully filtered extract of pure catnip leaves". I just sprayed a little on my dry hair and brushed through. Don't know why!!! Just did! Hope the cats don't come after me tonight!!!
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Does it say what it is extracted into - water or alcohol or whatever else?
It might be too highly concentrated for the long term, see how it conditions. Would be good if it works well!
