I think that could work, but it depends on how prone to buildup your hair is, because catnip can build up if you don't wash in between treatments. But if you just do one catnip soak in between washes it should probably be alright.

I have noticed the mention quite frequently that catnip may be used as an alternative to conditioner.
my goal in life as a person is to eventually be as natural and holistic as possible. for now i live in London UK, a far cry from the life hope for, but it is not forever and will be moving back to Australia and hopefully soon enough onto an acreage. When I go home I want to do a holistic medicine course, and grow my own herb/medicine garden. This is a big picture goal for my life .
I CO (cone free) currently after previously reducing my shampoo and conditioner to once a week, My hair does not get oily and the oils at my roots really only need addressing once a fortnight to every three weeks . However in conjunction with this I get dry ends, so wash weekly to combat this, and conditioner is enough to sort out the oils with the occasional clarify or light bicarb soda rinse, I vinegar rinse every other wash or so.
i have previously dye damaged hair, and the last 6" of my length or so do split, and while I do have steady growth I think it is a matter of two steps forward one step back, with breakage.
since it is the given opinion that catnip will build up with conditioner and also that it is able to be used as a conditioner
theoretically with time could one replace the bought conditioners with a catnip treatment, and apply as an infrequent CO method (ie. once weekly)?
I do also oil my hair as a deeper treatment and would continue this. but rely on the conditioner currently to remove the oil residue
I use rosewater as a mist.
it would be lovely to reduce my hair care to herbal infused rinses (skin care is headed this way also) more so it would be a dream to grow and prepare the herbs myself. But still maintain hair quality and condition
(the hardest thing for me to give up is dye, for now I stain my hair with veg dyes)
Sorry I havent read the whole thread @.@ but i was wondering if it still works if you grow your own catnip? I think it'd be so fun to have in the garden. Does it still work if it a genus that doesnt attact cats? (some types are more attractive to the kitties) I only ask because it keeps away some beetle pests we get, so it would be two fold!
Just ordered some organic catnip :D Cant wait to give it a go. Really need to put a stop to these white dots. They are driving me crazy.
cant wait to try this!! :D:D cant believe im going to actually use shampoo though O.O i just hope im not allergic to the catnip, i shouldnt be i think ive touched it before and nothing happened. but we'll see! :) ktani really convinced me and i get her with the build up from products, its like stupid. i hate it. plus im tired of using so much freaking conditioner...ill read through more of the thread and update how it went when i try it a few weeks
though my concern is that i only wash my hair once a week
will this be too drying for my hair over the course of the week? seeing how long is takes to do this, i think once a week is fine but i dont want my hair to feel too dry during the week! i hope its ok :)
I have done this. However I didn't do soaks but just used the catnip tea as a wash liquid. I would wet my hair squeeze it out pour in the catnip tea and scrub my scalp. It actually worked pretty well for me and would even remove a VERY light oiling! I did find I needed an ACV rinse after though or my hair was not shiny. I did it several times in a row before finally having to use something else (or just getting bored).
Soaks left too much residue on my hair and I definitely needed an ACV rinse and then it still felt coated. But then again if I ever do soaks I do them before washing because I don't like that 'coated' feeling it gives me.
I used a catnip rinse yesterday and was pleasantly supprised! I did my usual weekly routine, which is to massage my scalp with castor oil and conditioner, coat the ends in a coney conditioner and wear a cap for a couple of hours. I then washed my hair with diluted clarifying shampoo, blotted it until it was just damp and poured over the catnip tea, made to Ktani's directions. I then let it soak for an hour and rinsed with warm water, and followed it with my usual rooibos on the roots. I left it to air dry and put a few drops of oil in whilst it was damp.
I cant believe that a TEA is so conditioning! When I poured it on, my hair was a nest. When I rinsed it off, it was smooth and silky. Now its dry it feels like a cloud of silk. Its light, soft, shiny and full. I'm in absolute shock :p
I used catnip today for the first time and was pleasantly surprised as well. My hair is soft and tangle free and I will keep using it instead of the conditioner. I hope it will prevent split ends as well although the conditioning effect alone is worth using it.
woolyleprechaun and Majala Its not just cats that can become addicted to Catnip.:D I started using it 3.5 years ago and haven't used conventional conditioner since. Having spent years trying all sorts of conditioners I was very sceptical about all the claims about catnip but I am very glad that I tried it. My hair is in better condition now than it has been for many, many years.
