Re: Catnip for split ends?
I tried a catnip treatment for the first time a few nights ago. I only steeped it for about an hour and a half, as that's all the time I had. Left it on for about 20 minutes (once again, short on time :o), and saw a slight conditioning effect.
The most entertaining part was my cat's reaction, though! I had put a small plate on top of the mug while the tea was steeping, and later set it aside on the kitchen counter. When I came out of the shower, my cat was up on the counter rolling all over the plate! Haha

It might be too highly concentrated for the long term, see how it conditions. Would be good if it works well!
If you click on the link, the only description there it gives is "pure catnip extract". Doesn't have any other ingredients on the bottle. So, I think the only thing it has is the liquid from the plant. That's it!! (kinda like juicing??).
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I don't know about Canadian law, but in the US I believe pet products do not need to reveal the same level of detail regarding ingredients as human-grade products. I would still be concerned that the spray contains alcohol or another filler.
And anyway, you need so little catnip to reach the right level for hair that I think a spray this concentrated spray would probably just make hair look greasy. I know if I use too much or don't rinse the catnip tea out of my hair it just looks unwashed.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
i have trawled the thread but can't find much information on incorporating catnip into a WO routine. anyone have any wisdom they wanna share? :)
Re: Catnip for split ends?
You could try the catnip as a wash when you need a little extra cleaning power. I have found that it works pretty good for this. However I've never tried it long term. And I always do a very diluted ACV rinse after when I do this.
I've tried just washing with it and rinsing it out right away and also leaving it on for any where from 10 minutes to an hour and then rinsing it out well and doing my ACV rinse.
Both worked well. But I think the hour helps it to clean a little better but you also get more conditioning - if that makes sense.
It does seem to dissolve oil and grease and they say like cleans like so I would think it would also (to a certain extent) dissolve the catnip that was there before.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I really think I need to work more for this one. I got a little over excited because it made my ends quite soft last time I used this.
I steeped this overnight with nettle and lavender. It might have been waaay to strong. Because now my hair is super tangly and really weird. It feels like I haven't washed it for a week. I also left it in my hair for half an hour.
I don't know, I think I need to use a deep cleanser to make my hair normal again. Having hair this tangly might not be such a good idea, even if I could just put it up and forget about it.
Next time I will definitely use less herbs and steep for no more than an hour.
I wonder if anyone else has failed this miserably with catnip? :p
Edit: Nettle has never made my hair tangly bwt, it might be that I left it for too long in my hair that made it fail. It's hard to know exactly what went wrong because there could be quite a lot of factors.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Hi, I have a question, would a catnip rinse be good for a sore scalp?
I've used a henna gloss, and have a sore scalp. Thanks:D
Re: Catnip for split ends?
^ Might be. That or some other herb like lavender. But also a simple ACV rinse might help.

I remember a similar question being asked early in this thread and Ktani said that catnip does help to relieve an irritated scalp. It certainly wouldn't do any harm giving it a try.

I don't know about the other herbs, but in my experience steeping catnip too short a time makes it more tangle inducing. ktani recommends 4 and a half hours, and that's what I've been getting the best results with too.
If the tea comes out too strong from too much catnip I dilute it with some warm water, and it works just as well. I've learned to sort of eyeball the right color, when it's a nice deep yellow but not too brown.
