I am doing a rinse everyday now, I shampoo, rinse, apply catnip, do showery things then rinse and apply a bit of condish to the ends and rinse again. I will do a hour treatment over the weekend again, I am enjoying the fact that the itching is totally bearable now and I'm sure it won't be long before the nasty patches are totally gone. :cheese:
I am very glad that you are pleased but catnip is not a cure.
It depends on what the problem on your scalp is and whether it requires medical treatment.
Catnip could be a part of a medical routine in terms of being applied in between treatments after consultation with a doctor first.
I am not saying catnip replaces medical treatment.

Don't worry Ktani, I know that my itchy scalp is caused by being sensitive to ingredients, (still not 100% sure which ones though, but I'm getting there!) I am more than happy to keep going with the catnip.

Cool. I have the same problem but when I get a sensitivity reaction, I get pain. Itch would be a relief, lol.
I started to compare ingredient labels and look up ingredients a long time ago. It can be very difficult if an ingredient list is long but I have narrowed it down for my sensitivities too.
I was lucky as well, in being able to identify the worst one at the beginning (I did not have sensitivity problems all of my life to the degree I do now). I had 2 conditioners by the same brand. I reacted to one and not the other. The ingredient lists were short and there was only one ingredient that was different. Sure enough, if I later used a product with that ingredient, I reacted to the product.
These days, from my experience, the worst ingredient offenders are the scent additives. Not essential oils, although they can be, but for me, the chemical ones like hexyl cinnamal.
"Hexyl cinnamaldehyde, or hexyl cinnamal .... common additive in perfume and cosmetic industry as aroma substance .... found naturally in the essential oil of chamomile.
Hexyl cinnamaldehyde .... class B allergen according to DIMDI classification .... also an irritant in concentrations higher than recommended."

I am not allergic to chamomile.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Thank you for doing this thread. I read it back in March but never got around to trying Catnip untill a few days ago. So far I love it.
Here is what I did:
I used Cosmic Catnip 1tsp to 300ML of water ( approx.)I boiled tapwater and steeped for 30 min. then strained and cooled. I used a clarifying shampoo for the first time. I usually avoid SLS because I get itchies and dandruff but I wanted to start fresh and see what catnip can really do.
After clarifying I soaked as much of my length as I could in the catnip and then poured it over my head and into another bowl. I kept this up untill my hair was completly soaked with catnip. I bagged my hair and sat for an hour. At this point it was late and I was too tired to wash it out so I unbagged it, draped it over my satin pillow and fell asleep. I woke up around 3AM and my hair was still damp. OMG it was soooo soft and I ran my fingers through it and the few tangles I had just slipped right out.
I went back to sleep and by morning my hair was dry. It was conditioned but did not feel as nice as when it was damp ( I can't explain the feeling, not sticky really but not soft and smooth?) I waited untill the next day and made more catnip tea then I washed my hair ( from the ears up only ) with non-SLS shampoo the way I normally do and then repeated the soaking and bagging with the catnip ( same as above) I left it for an hour then rinsed it out really well with water only.
I was a little concerned because I was going to a party and thats usually not the best time to experiment with new concoctions but my hair turned out lovely. It was easy to detangle, very shiney and very soft:D I actually took it down 1/2 way through the party and was feeling it up lol.
Last night I soaked it in the tea again and went to bed. I am about to go shower and I am going to wash with non-SLS from ears up as usual and then I plan on soaking and bagging hair for a short time just while I finish my shower. Then rinsing with water.
I am going to continue this no conditioner thing for a while and use catnip tea only. One other thing I had no dandruff or scalp itchies from the SLS clarifying shampoo I contribute this to the catnip because it has never happened before.

I actually did not start this thread. I was invited to it.
I am so pleased that you are pleased with the results. I understand exactly what you meant by "not exactly sticky but nor as good as". I had to change my description to tacky and that is still not exact for the feeling of left-in catnip depending on the dilution, how well you have washed the length etc.
Believe it or not, I can tell the difference between a 275 + ml dilution and 300 ml sometimes but it is not a big deal. The measurements are not exact, as in scientific.
The 275+ but not 300 woks best for me. 300 is too light not in colour but in conditioning. That is just how I feel about it. It could be other variables when I have compared them.
I play with the dilution a bit sometimes. That is why I said it was no big deal.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Then thanks to MadPirateBippy for starting this and Raederle for paging Ktani and Ktani for all of your information and time ;)
Ktani I am about to make more and I will do the 275ML of water this time to see if I notice a difference. My hair is still damp from my shower, I can run my fingers through it and it feels soft.
I will post how it feels after using the new mix with 275ML of water, probably tommorow afternoon or the next day( whenever my hair feels like it needs it)

You are most welcome.

275 is a guesstimate - my measuring cup does not have that exact measurement - it is just below 300 and more than 250 by eye, lol.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Well my experiment with 275ml failed because I was too lazy lol. I just eyeballed it a little less then the 300ml. I did not notice much difference in fact it seemed less conditioning. I wonder if my better results were not from it being 300ml of water but were from leaving it on over night? This last time I did not leave it in over night, I left it on for 45 min.
I just oiled for the first time all week because it seemed like it needed it. Ktani,do you oil along with the catnip?
I have had 2 people say that my hair looked really shiney:D

300 ml is more diluted, so that is the main difference between those 2 dilutions. I find 300 ml too light, 250 ml more astringent and about 275 ml, right for me.
You will find your own dilution preference.
No, I do not oil my hair. I find the oil in catnip plus my own enough for me.
As to overnight vs 45 minutes?
I have found an hour bagged, enough for me, although I have not tried my current dilution bagged, overnight.
I am not fond of sleeping with plastic covered, wet hair, lol.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
Just thought I'd drop by to say I'd fallen off the catnip bandwagon. I was just using it as a rinse, leaving it on for a couple minutes in the shower before rinsing it off. I did get shine, but on many days I also got a kind of tackiness that was annoying and encouraged tangles. I don't know if leaving it on for an hour as ktani recommends would improve my results, but as I don't want to spend that much time on my hair it's a moot point. I'd also be worried about getting too much color since I have light blond hair. Just my two cents. :)
