I was having a problem trying to colour my white/silver hair closest to my scalp but I think I have solved this now. I pour an amount of catnip on a cotton wool pad and hold it on the difficult areas for a short while. This appears to be working and the hair is picking up more colour.
Brilliant idea with the cotton wool! I just hold the catnip over those areas with my hand for a few seconds, while applying it. The extra catnip on the length is something I had wanted to do for extra colour as well, for a while. It has helped with that too.
The split end prevention has worked for me, with my old method of application on the length, beautifully. I was just having more length reaction to humidity. The top of my hair, where there is more grey, and where I apply more catnip anyway, has not reacted to humidity the same way, so that it why I realized I needed to do the same thing to the length, where the "roll over" problem was appearing.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I don't have any splits but would be interested to try it for it's many benefits. I have a bag of dried catnip now, but I don't think I will use it tonight because I don't know how my hair would end up, going for a night out so.
I wonder if it does make hair slippery? Does it weigh down the hair? I usually have problems with those two if I use something that is too moisturizing.

Some people are "genetically blessed" with hair that is more resistant to the stresses (dryness, mechanical damage, conventional chemicals), that can cause split ends and breakage. I am not one of them, lol. You are fortunate. Catnip though has been reported to help prevent split ends for a number of people besides me, and they have different hair types, textures and routines.
Catnip is not heavy, just the opposite. The amount of slip you can get will depend to some degree on what if any conditioning residue is on your hair from the shampoo or conditioner, or both, that you have been using. I have been able not to use conditioner or anything else on my hair following catnip, for a long time and others have found that too, so lack of slip has not been a problem. Some people like to use a leave-in or oil afterwards. Catnip leaves my hair very full, so that it appears thicker than it actually is, much thicker looking than using conditioner ever did. Here is the Catnip Article.

Thats the reason why I have been applying it like this to the length because some of my white hair is very long and it picks up the colour well using this method.

Yes, I find that too. My grey on the length is not that noticable (I have been staining it for a long time) but my colour does look better with extra catnip used there. I have been getting more grey, in streaks, on the top. My length is older and the catnip stain there is pretty good. Now it is even better!
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I forgot that I was steeping my catnip the day before yesterday and left it over night, used it the next morning (yesterday) for 30-60mins (I didn't really time, I just played around on LHC lol) and today it left my hair full of shine and body! :cheese: I might do that again next time lol

Catnip is amazing stuff. Enjoy and I am so glad that you are happy with it. My waves have stayed even more beautifully defined this week and I am very happy with my hair. I am still learning and trying new things with catnip, in terms of tweaking how I use it.

I really like it but it is not the only brand to try IMO. Walmart may still
carry this and it is cheaper than Hagen. I may try it.
My cats love catnip and I bought them some of that brand (SmartyKat) yesterday. Nothing. They sniffed a bit and then walked away and never did any of their usual antics. I looked for a date on the bag but could not find one.
Anyway, I've been wanting to try catnip rinses for awhile now and am finally getting around to doing it. My splits and breakage is horrible, even with henna. I am definitely one of those unlucky ones who's hair has always been prone to breakage and splits - even when I was a child and my mom took such good care of it and it was all virgin hair. So I'm off to PetsSmart tonight and will try one of the other brands, and I'll try this SmartyKat from yeterday too, to see if there's any difference.
I want to thank Ktani and Iris and Stagecoach especially for all their research and experiments and posting about using catnip. It's taken me days, but I've finally gotten through all of this thread and blog posts and other threads on the subject!!!
I'll let everyone know how it works for me.

Ooh, sorry to hear about your cats rejecting that brand. Odd. I will take it off my list of possible other brands to try if you do not find it good.
You are most welcome, on my part for the information. Catnip will do better if you are in between hennas and the resin has washed out somewhat. If you condition a lot, I suggest using a shampoo for normal hair or clarifying pre catnip.
I started out with build-up on my hair and catnip use really improved to what it is now, just after the build-up was gone.
I am way behind on the blogs list I keep to read, so I am no doubt not familiar with the entries you refer to and probably some of the other threads too. I do not subscribe to threads, even threads I have started.
Please update as you go.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
The cat nip from www. dragonherbarium.com made my beloved cat climb my dresses from the floor to the top of my closet. The little darlin then found the bag and covered my entire room with it and pieces of ripped bag.
THAT WAS THE DAY I FOUND THE FREEZER FOR STORAGE! :rollin:
