I shampooed twice in the shower (only using a little 'poo each time) to get my excess shea out, then poured the catnip on so I could drip without it going everywhere.
With the weaker brew my hair felt initially more tangled, but when it dried it was much more healthy, soft and flexible then before. I also have less static then I did last time.
Great news! And it should still get better from here.

ktani - I am wondering about brewing up 2 cups of the catnip tea, and diluting a tiny bit of shampoo into one cup and using that to wash the hair and then using the second cup to condition the hair ... this is an experiment I may try out this weekend if time permits.

Go for it. I cannot see it doing any harm.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I did a little bit of experimenting this week.:D
I washed with catnip tea, 'CO' style everyday for the last 4 days while out of town and my hair feels great. I washed at night, ( dumped the tea, normal dilution, on my head and scrubbed lightly with my fingers, then I poured more tea on my length and finished my bath. I rinsed well with plain water, and lightly towel dried. I then put about a fingernail size of shea butter through my hair ears down and gently combed. Last I braided my hair and went to bed.) and despite using shea butter every night and a little in the morning, my hair did not get greasy.
I am still going to shampoo tonight, but only cause I have horse poo in it and not because it is greasy:rolleyes:
This catnip as CO is working:cheese:
I imagine that if I didn't live such a dirty life:p (that sounds funny) I might be able to use shampoo much less often.
Yeah for catnip:D
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I've been lurking on this thread for a little while. I purchased some catnip last weekend (funny cat story available). I made a batch as close to specs as possible I think it was 1tsp dry catnip in 275ml microwaved water, steeped for about 20-30 minutes lightly covered, strained and cooled. The first time I used it as a conditioner after a shampoo bar. The second time I did the same but didn't rinse it out till morning, so it dried on my hair and then was rinsed out. I wouldn't have really had to rinse it out, but my ends were stringy looking kind of like when I take my hair out of a braid where the tassle was.
My hair is not oily or lank at all like it can get with conditioner. It is definetly thicker but without frizz. So, my hair loves it, but I don't know if my scalp likes it. Its kinda itchy and when I scratch there are little hard salt-like things on my scalp, and there are pimples at my crown and temples. Not a ton, just more than usual.

I may try this....Definetly! I did a cross between CO and WO for a while and my scalp & hair loved it. I think I stopped when I started doing Henna and trying to strip the black dye out of my hair. CO with regular conditioner is not good for my hair, and WO is not enough. This may well be what I can use....

This is really cool, IMO. I am taking notes, lol. Seriously, I am saving your posts in my research stash on catnip.

You may be allergic to it. Someone last year broke out in hives when she sprayed it on her hair and she got it on her skin.
I would patch test. What you describe on your scalp is not "normal" with catnip.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I break out on my scalp occasionally but with me it is diet related. It has always been that way. Catnip soothes my scalp when that happens. Catnip does not cause it to happen for me.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
The one thing I do strongly recomend about catnip, for experimenting with, and that is as much as possible, try to buy a catnip that is organic and pesticide free. It does not have to be certified organic but that is nice IMO. The one I use just says organic, pesticide free. That works for me.
You are in some cases going to be soaking in it for an hour at a time, and while regular catnip is safe, IMO, it is better to use a catnip that is that much safer.
