Re: Catnip for split ends?
I know that catnip has no problem removing my silicone-based sunblock.
I know that catnip cleans my skin well, even when it gets oily.
I used catnip as my second "shampoo" on oily hair and that worked well too.
I do wonder how well catnip can clean vegetable oiled hair but that has been reported to work, with soapnuts used after it, and better than soapnuts alone.
I find this all fascinating.
Soapnuts, from reports as well as research, does not dissolve vegetable oils that easily. The fact that catnip assisted soapnuts in doing so, franky amazes me. I do not doubt the report, http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...&postcount=859.
All of these unknowns. All of these experiments.
Wonderful!

Please take note of this thread here, http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...t=19622&page=2.
Information gets buried in page counts and it is important IMO, that cautions not get missed.
Re: Catnip for split ends?
I think one way to ease into using catnip as "shampoo" aka the only cleansing method, would be to dilute your shampoo with the catnip tea, and over time, use less and less shampoo in the dilution, and maybe only use the very weak shampoo dilution on your scalp for the first "wash", then catnip only for the second "wash".

I like this idea, Demetrue and will plan to incorporate it at some point in my lab tests. :)

Both sound like good options, thank you.
I am habit driven. I have to break myself away from that. It has been a while since I have altered my catnip routine very much, except for slight but important changes for me, to the dilution.

To reinforce this idea, I washed with Soapnut alone this morning to remove a Heavy Oiling and had to wash 2 times then a third. While blowdrying my bangs I noticed I was still oily so I rewashed only the front of my hair and crown (third round). The front and crown were not oily but I had to put the rest up in a braid because it was still oily. I'll definetly be using the catnip again to verify/solidify the results. My next heavy oiling will be Friday unless I get impatient (which is often :))

Real CO'ing with conditioner has been reported to remove heavy oilng well.
The only thing that I can think of about catnip and the oil, is that the oils in it, somehow help remove other oils.
Catnip does not contain anything else except acetic acid, which is what vinegar is, very diluted, that could do this that I know.

Here is another picture.

Not all of the catnip I have used has had as many buds in it. It still worked and I stopped getting split ends. The pet store catnip seems over all, to have more buds. I would not be too concerned. I did have some poor colouring results from some health food store catnip that was leaves and flowers and looked nothing like my catnip now but I still got good conditioning from it.
I just get better colour and conditioning now, with the Hagen catnip and I believe that part of that, has to do with it containing more catnip buds.
Catnip flowers, to get the most out of them, according to the catnip farmer I spoke with, should be harvested before the buds open. Not all vendors sell catnip harvested the same way. When I started using catnip, I just bought catnip and could not find just the leaves for sale. It said catnip leaves and flowers, on all of the labels. Only later, did I learn that catnip flowers contain more oils. Catnip still worked for me then and does now. Because it is a natural product, there is going to be a variation in quality but that happens with conventional products too.
I think after looking at those two more carefully I might have to invest in another lot, never mind this one was only very cheap. A pet shop in town said it gets it in and expected some in 2 weeks that was last week, so I will ring them again. :)

You may be fine with what you have. You can always try it on your skin, in the meantime.

I did do it again yesterday. I feels ok again I am not raving over the results like others. It combs out well and feels fine. :)
