Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ha, I had pretty much the same thought. I'm playing with getting some "highlights" right under the top layer of my hair. An other idea is to get some colourful strands weaven in.
Thank you for your answer, jaine. Now I'm encouraged to try a diagonal braid tomorrow.

What do all you girls do with your hair when it is at that terrible shoulder length stage and can't really do anything to make it look nice?? feeling terribly daggy!! and been trying to get inspiration for hair styles but everything you look at on the internet etc is only for long hair... not baby short hair :( but on a good side of it hair has never been in better condition :p I know it is only a matter of time... but it is such a long time! just want to look nice while I am waiting!

Shoulder is when starts to work for hairstyles. Can you imagine shorter?
I wish this thread was discussing more about hairstyles too. I usually do sock buns, peacock twists, normal twists, messy buns, a messy ponytail with something clipped over it, two braids occasionally for casual day, half-ups (pretty accessories!), two chunks of hair twisted or braided and clipped back, two side combs and lately I can do a cinnabun, just one loop though. :D

I'm almost APL now but there's a few things you can do at shoulder length. I do a French Twist, I'm not able to do a real Cinnabun because of my layers but I do the twisting thing then twist my hair under around to up around (hope that makes sense...). By then I'm out of hair so I pull the lower part over the higher part (you could call it like a horizontal French Twist) and stick in my hair fork. Both work great. You can also make a small braid or a half updo braid or ponytail. The first two styles are in my album.

This is interesting! :) I guess I can only do a cinnabun at this length because I'm a wurly. I got tons of layers though.

These are pretty much all the things I can do right now.
I'd add the gibson tuck. When I do half ups I can also do a rose bun.

I even have a pic here of a gibson tuck! How could I forget. It's not something I wear often.
Keep the styles comming! :D
How about braid headbands too?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Okay, I know you all are talking hairstyles right now, but I wanted to pop in and say that I am now officially in this thread!! Woo hoo!! I am still a shortie, but the back of my hair brushes my shoulders and just below my shoulders!! YAY!!
Back to hairstyles. When I have it oiled, I can pull all of my hair into a strange french braid on top which ends in a looped ponytail. I find that it's not a look to leave the house in, but it sure does keep my ends protected while I'm at home and lounging around!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can also do a pencil bun, a single hair stick bun and if I bun my hair when it's still damp, a lazy wrap bun.
What I did when my hair was a bit shorter was make buns where you split one coil and then stick a hair stick through it. Something like Spidermom's bun that stays except you wrap your hair once around your finger(s), tuck the ends around the base and then you split the hair that is around your finger(s) in two, put one side to the left, one to the right and stick a hair stick through it making sure to place the stick under the base of the bun.
It's a pitiful little bun but your hair will be up, out of the way and it stays pretty securely.
ETA: welcome shicurls!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
ok, the diagonal french braid is absolutely possible. It was a bit more difficult I guess, because I did not want to braid my fringe into it.
