I had left because i had reached APL, but yesterday I did a major big chop as I realised that although I'd been growing out damage from 2 years ago, my hair didn't look as good as it should because i was still heat styling (blowdrying my hair straight). So those awful ends have gone and my curls have sprung back up full of life haha, and I'm back to shoulder length hair when stretched. My avatar picture shows my new hair cut. I hope it grows as quickly as it was before!
Nice photos, guys- this thread just burst into curl! Gorgeous hair :)

My hair is only 18" with lots of layers so I'm quite pleased that I got this to work.
My hair is 19.5" and layered and I've been putting it up with a stick by cheating slightly - I put it in a ponytail then start to make a gibson tuck but instead of claw clipping it closed I put the stick through then flip it over catch some scalp hair & poke it through I've found a few different ways to put the stick through and it seems to stay (or at least its good enough for me as I REALLY want to start wearing hair sticks and am so impatient)

Here's another option. Take a look at the flexi-8 site and look at the styling videos. Check out the style called the up and down. I use sticks with this style (and forks too!) all the time. I am three inches away from APL. Hope you can get it to work for you.

Heh! That's what I've been doing with my hair lately, but with a spin pin. I had no idea it was a "proper" style. :p

Thanks for the suggestion - I like the style (and some of the others too) but I think I'm an inch or 2 and a few too many layers too short still, but I'll keep trying I may be lucky - sometimes a little variation & a style works.

When my hair was closer to shoulder with layers than APL, I used to do a partial french braid to gather up some of the shorter layers, just to where I'd usually make a pony-tail... THEN gather up the rest of the hair and do a bun with a stick. It took a little bit of practice to get it neat, and worked better the day after wash-day. Depending on how long your layers are, this may be another option. Have fun experimenting!

I'm back! I was ill for a few days, which might explain that shed I had last week. now suddenly my braid feels much thicker, although I attribute that to the sweltering temperatures ^^
how is everybody? I am rather excited, because my parents got a pool today! :applause: although my hair will not be a fan of the chlorine, but my body will be a fan of the exercise. I'll jsut have to get one of those flowery synchronised swimming caps ^^

Hahaha, a flowery swim cap would be awesome! Glad you're feeling better!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi, my hair when wet is just past my shoulders but when it's dry the ends curl up above. I've gone from very short in Jan 11 to where it is now, so I'm hoping to be at APL by Christmas . Trying out the protein drinks to see if they help with hair growth.
