Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ah sorry I do understand . I used to be like this with my weight and clothing size. I understand the stress and anxiety of it all. Same as calories in my food I had a target of X calories a day and I would get severe panic attacks if I realise I made a mistake and took in one extra calorie. I’m not like this now although it’s easy to sometimes slip into old habits and worries . I actually become really ill over it so I really hope someday you can find a way to overcome it . The only thing which isn’t a good thing that helped me over come it is I developed such a strong fear of passing out and my panic attacks were so bad I have to eat enough to stop any feeling of palpitations and being lightheaded. I’m really sorry that you are going that it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. It rules your life even when you don’t realise it :(
For me it was more about numbers and targets not gain or loss nobody believed me though they all thought I was trying to lose weight and honestly I wasn’t
Edit - my apologies for such a long post and going so off topic

I edited my previous post right after I wrote it, but you've already replied, so don't be surprised by it.

A quick little question for everyone. How many of you trim your own hair? I am finding it really difficult to get the courage to try because it is so short on the top layers. Does any one have any tips/tricks?
Happy New Year! I'm considering self-trimming, at least to keep the front under control. It's not long enough that I trust myself to trim all of it though, I'd rather pay my stylist to make sure it's even!

Thank you! The haircut totally worked to help cheer me up. It doesn't feel too much shorter either!
fhairyqueen, I'm sorry that no-one believed you about the cause. I'm glad you're not experiencing it that bad any more, and I can sympathise with it being easy to slip into old habits (not the same issues, but I've had stuff in a similar ballpark).

OK, sooooo today was The January Trim, and I'm super happy with how it turned out. This time I asked for as little off as possible, max of 2cm (bigger max this time than last time because there were some bent ends, and a few splits turning up), and a bit of shaping at the front. This time she didn't even offer to use the straighteners. Annoyingly, I had a coughing fit when she was blow drying the front, but she got me some water!

I'm getting really excited about where it'll be in six months time. It finally feels like it's getting some length to it, and although I do still feel like I'm stuck in the middle of Eternal Shoulder Length, I can definitely see the progress.

Corvana, I don't want to give you high hopes, but you are VERY close to APL, I think you will be entitled to call it sooner than you planned. And no one is going to say you're cheating, you're doing the towel test, that's pretty bullet proof.

Renora25, to trim my layers I use this method

You don't have to feather the ends like she does, do just a blunt cut if that's what you prefer. Also, trim off only very little, like 1/4 inch the most, work on small sections and make sure you use very sharp shears. The cut should be very clean and precise, if you feel the shears are sawing through your hair, they are not sharp enough or the hair strand is too thick. On the hemline part, I can't be of much help, I'm using the Lillith Moon tutorial, but you get a V shaped hemline, and it might not be your thing. The main thing is that you don't trim off too much, that way, if you should happen to make a mistake, it won't be as obvious or you can still get it fixed at a salon without losing length.
Thank you so much! After watching the video I feel less anxious about the idea.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Also _fred_ your hair looks so healthy. It must feel nice to get the trim done. I love how it seems to have a pink to purple gradient.

Thank you! I had it like this until yesterday, when I had a sudden need to go pink all over again. I'll purple-up the ends some more in a week or so.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
When you do the towel test do you cram it as high as it will go under your armpit or is that cheating ?

Finally got a good photo of my post trim hair. It was APL, but fine and taily. I'm so much happier with it now, even though it'll take me a few more months to get back to APL. I've decided to trim a bit more frequently than I was doing, I think my hair needs it.
Now I'll go back and read the thread, see what everyone else has been up to :)

Fred, that's gorgeous, and looong!
