that is an interesting and scary theory.
That looks like APL to me Firegypsy!
I'm another one who has the mismatch between overall inches grown and inches of roots. Tisiloves' theory is a bit of a frightening thought.
Congrats, Firegypsy. On that other thing, I'm glad I don't color. You guys are scaring me. Brrrrrrrh!
Here is my early TTT:

No work today so I thought I'd take it early. I see more growth than I expected.
Oooh, Tisiloves, I hadn't thought of that...
Firegypsy, my hair grows longer than the roots would suggest as well. I got to an inch or two of roots, and (meanwhile, my hair's grown 3-4 inches ) but then they start, like, looking shorter. Like they're growing backwards! it's the weirdest thing...
OK, I'm posting my length shot (and the results of my rooibos experiment!) a day early :p

First shot is June first, second pic is the 14th, and the third is from June 30th. Judging by the last pic, the very ends of my very longest layer are about .25" past APL! In the first shot, I didn't do a very good job of marking where my hair was at. It's actually a weensy bit above the purple line.
I'm going to call APL here, but I'll stick around another month to let some more hair catch up.
The rooibos seemed to have helped my growth rate out quite a bit, but it's a big hassle, plus I think it may have triggered my shed. For now, no more rooibos.
Congrats Firegypsy! I have the same problem with the roots and was wondering about that same theory. My hair has definitely grown more than what my roots are showing right now.
I'm so mad im about half an inch away to call APL And now I have to get a trim :( maybe next month
You may be right, but I was wondering if the rest phase that the hair undergoes before it falls out might also cause this? It would blur the line between dyed and not dyed hair. Or how the hair doesn't grow in the same speed in the entire head? Mine seems to grow faster at the back of my head, and slower in the front (it doesn't seem to be breakage). If I'd dye my hair the growth and roots wouldn't match, because I would probably look at my roots from the front and measure the length from the back.
