Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
For me it helps that i don't really have an actual goal to look forward to. Right now my hair is longer than it's ever been (as far as i can remember), between shoulder and apl.
I'm not measuring exactly, i'm just enjoying swinging my hair around and having it feel 'heavy' when it gets wet. To me this already feels long so i don't really want to bother with goals.
What i do want to do is to do an updo-challenge, but i like the way my hair looks when it's down too much so i think i'll wait a little longer :p

One thing that stands out from your post is that if you're dreading the journey from sl to apl, and then from apl to bsl, that's alot of hair dissatisfaction, maybe 2 years worth! Maybe there's a way to enjoy the journal sooner? That's not a rhetorical question - I haven't figured out how to do it either! So if you do figure it out let me know...I love lurking in the super long hair threads too.
I will be here for the long haul too so I'm glad you're here!
Haha, yes. Growing up I used to have this particularly terrible problem about dwelling on the past. Now, I mostly dwell on the future and tend to think too far ahead. I really need to learn to live in the moment. This sort of belongs in the off-topic threads, but it is relevant to how I view my hair's growth. My job hasn't helped in that regard. I work at McDonald's and policy basically is, "If you can get things accomplished in this amount of time, you can always push harder to get things done in less." Faster is better and we're reminded while trying to be faster, that we need to try for even less in the future. Speed and the future are real points of focus for them... >.> When I get off work it's hard to just slow down and think in the present. I've been working there since early November. I'm the kind of person that likes to work at my own pace, which is fairly slow, and I am a perfectionist on top of it. I'm actually quite a typical Taurus. Patient, slow, consistent. I used to actually pride myself in my patience. And although I acknowledge what growing long hair signifies for an individual, it's hard to keep that mindset while it's growing. Oh, how I have forgotten my ways. I guess I also miss my hair and want to feel something new in length as my whole adult life (since grad) has been with hair above my shoulders. In that regard I'm not so much a Taurus, though I do like a certain amount of constance in things. At any rate, I will certainly keep trying to appreciate my hair in its current state as it grows. I love it to death.. er.. life? and am having quite a love affair with it. I've finally begun to love it for its colour, now I just to love it for its length and how it most often will not go through growth spurts of between .75 to an inch a month.
Like Roscata said, about the English braid. I miss being able to English braid my hair. When I can braid it I will feel like I am getting somewhere. I do so love to braid and love the feeling of a braid, the texture. Eventually.. but, hey, there's no harm in keeping trying everytime I think about it, or just braiding mini braids in the longest of hairs and admiring them before taking them out.
*shimmies off to the knee length and beyond thread now*:D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yay im at "can I call this APL?" just stretches when wet. Gimme another month or so & It'll be official! :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hair depression moment: Been in the vicinity of APL for at least two months when wet... And I need another month or two more than likely till I'm APL dry and straight/stretched(23.5")... Don't even get me started on how long my hair will need to be to get to APL dry and curly, prob 25 or 26 inches which would be BSL or even waist on some people...

So glad to hear you are enjoying your current length. It is really exciting when your hair is longer than it has ever been before. I'm thinking of doing an updo challenge, too!

I know exactly what you mean! My hair is currently shoulder length (just made it this month, finally!) The longest it's ever been in my adult life is collar bone length, and for the past year or so it's been chin length or shorter. Now that I've hit shoulder, I love seeing how my hair sits on my shoulder, and how it's starting to split at the shoulder, some in front and some in the back. I love playing with my hair, and swinging it around, as you said. It's a lot of fun, and that's a big part of the reason that I'm growing it. My goal is APL, but I'm finding my self really enjoying it, even at this shorter length. I'm looking forward to loving it more as it gets even longer.

I hear ya! My hair is less curly than yours, but will need to be 25" or 26" to get to APL when dry, thanks to my combo of wurls and super-long neck and torso. Waist... it's a loooooong way away.

I have this problem, too. I have a very long neck, AND I am 5'10", AND I have wurls. It makes for a VERY slow grow out period, doesn't it? I feel like I will never hit APL!

Finally I can join this thread. I hope to learn a lot from all of you!
