Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was just barely touching BSL when I went in for a trim two days ago. I asked for an inch and a half to be cut off, and she took more than 3 :( So now it isn't even at APL any more.
I was really really upset, but now I'm trying to look on the bright side and hope to be to BSL in about 8 months.
I got a quick growth spurt from taking DE a few months ago, so I'm going to try that again. Maybe that will speed things up a bit! I hope, I hope.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Alright. Went to the salon today:rolleyes: Granted, I'm loving the color and the highlights! But I thought "hey! Let's do something different. I know! Bangs!" Yeah. She cut them too short. Somehow lip-length became tip of nose-length:confused: Monistat to the rescue ...
It's also really dry and "floofy." I'm hoping a good coat of argan oil and some panacea will take care of it :)

Your bangs will be the length you want before you know it! :D
I'm not sure of your hair type but when I hear floofy, it reminds me of my own hair ... I always straighten my bangs with gel when they're a little too short for my comfort, since they look longer when they're lying flat and not puffy. Wet or damp hair, hard hold gel, fine tooth comb to get everything smooth, leave it alone until it's dry, comb out the crunch, voila! Smooth straight bangs that look longer than they would be if they had dried with waves.
(Actually, I still do a variation of that on my whole head because I like to have my wave/curl pattern a lot looser and straighter than it would be normally ... it's just easier for me to deal with and less tangly)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Since August last year when my hair was just below ear length, it's now just touching shoulder length, so I reckon it'll be at least another six months before I reach APL. Probably nearer a year to get to where it was before I stupidly cut it. Note to self: don't listen to other people when it comes to your hair (unless they're LHC affiliated :D )

Thank you:D This floofy-ness was more like fluffy and fly away type. Over washed floofiness, lol. Fortunately the oil did the trich and my hair is behaving much better now ...

I was very fortunate last month when I went for a trim - I asked my hairdresser to wash my hair with conditioner only, and she did! I think it was Biolage Matrix, and it didn't seem to have 'cones in it cos it didn't make my hair all goopy like CO'ing with 'cones does.

That’s great! I'm very secretive about my routine around hairdressers. I don’t want them to try and tell me I’m wrong and how I should be looking after my hair or have them look at me strangely, so I keep my routine to myself (I’m probably being a bit paranoid). But to find one that did a CO wash is nice.
I've started trimming my hair myself... I just did a trim this weekend I think it’s the third one I’ve done myself :)
It looks okay. Just very blunt, because I cant feather or layer the ends myslef. But I think some length will thin out those ends :D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hairdresser is awesome too ... she asked me when my last shampoo was and decided to only use conditioner when she heard the answer. :)
I have the urge to keep going back to my hair salon and spoiling them with nice tips even though my next haircut is 11 months away. So far I've gone back for a manicure/pedicure, brow wax, and a massage.

Well I'm a little off the beaten path with a lot of my routines, particularly what I eat - controlled (unrefined only) carbs, little or no sugar, higher protein/fat - so I'm used to people looking at me strangely. :D

For me, a trip to the salon is a necessary nuisance, like grocery shopping or scrubbing the toilet, yet another thing to fit into my day that sucks time out of the space/time continuum. Maybe if you want to stay away, look at it as a chore rather than a treat?
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I like getting salon services actually! For me it's a nice treat to get a brow wax or a pedicure or a massage. I don't think it's a chore at all. :)

Same here :). I enjoy it every two or three months, although they can't do much for my hair any longer except for tinting. They have denied cutting twice now, because my tips are healthy (although bleached a number of times) :cheese:.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I reached APL about a month ago, but was sticking around here thinking I was going to trim for full moon in Leo. Then I decided that I didn't have enough splits to warrant a trim. So now I feel like I'm officially graduating from this thread. I'll try to get some pictures in my album tomorrow when my DH can take them for me. Good luck and happy growing everyone.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I was aiming for APL in June for my friends wedding but doesn't seem I'll make it. I think shoulder is the worst place for me to stall! I hate shoulder, it just sits and you can't do much with it.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I don't like shoulder much either. I secretly liked pixie better than shoulder - it was faster to dry, easier to style, and felt sassy and edgy and daring. Shoulder is slow to dry, difficult to style, and feels very conservative on me. But I'm hanging in there because I'm sure I'll feel much less conservative as it gets longer and longer ... and a fully expressed wave pattern will be easier for me to work compared to shoulder where everything ends mid-wave in a sticky-outy cowlick.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I totally agree. It's so hot here right now, that I'm secretly wishing for a super short pixie. A "longer" pixie is unpratical on me. I love going to the hairdresser. Having to go there every 3 to 4 weeks would be lovely.
But, if I'll make this reality, I'll never have long hair. After a few pixie weeks, I'll probably forget about going to the hairdresser all the time and start growing it out again. It's completely crazy.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
just some advice as i was stuck at this length since middle school until like freshman or sophmore year in college! i kept cutting it in frustration or dying it or watvr came about instead of being patient.i learned this last November to self trim aftr my lAst salon disastr id advice to avoid salons and invest on some scissors and search online to trim your own hair its really easy and you are in control of how much is cut. most stylists get scissor happy or advise to come monthly. hair only growths about .5 inch per month so if u trim monthly yull cutt of all the growth.
wen u tie ur hair in a low ponytail pull it down evenly retighten it toward the ends if necessary go as low as u can and the remaining strands cut to get rid of the split ends its the best thing i learned .Ill try and find the link to the video so u can get a better idea. u can skip trim as 6-10 or more if ur hair is still healthy at the ends no need to trim often it varies on how much heat and chemicals u use. happy growing :)

I agree! I LOVE going to the salon, for any reason. I especially love to get mani-pedi's, as they are relatively inexpensive. Pedicures are my favorite.
I even like getting my hair cut. (Yes, really) I like having someone else wash my hair and I love the scalp massage that goes with it!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I like getting my hair cut too... I like feeling pampered. :crush:
For now I'm satisfying the pampering urge with other stuff since my trims are only once a year while I grow I out.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'd like to join this thread :) I'm a new member, as you can see, and I've just recently reached shoulder length after chopping my hair to a chin length layered bob with bangs. I have pesky layers and outgrown bangs now, and I think I look quite horrid, but no matter, at least I've made it this far! My ultimate goal is probably somewhere mid-back or so, but for now I'll focus on getting to APL and possibly trimming at that point in order to get those layers under control. We'll see what happens.

Earthworkshealth.com sells it and has a great deal of info on it.
I sure do agree that shoulder is a tough length! I also enjoyed a lot about the pixie, except for the constant maintenance - it was quick, easy and always looked professional. Shoulder is not quite long enough to put up, but long enough to get in your way. I'm hoping that the coming of spring will trigger a nice growth spurt :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am really hating this length. Blah. I feel like I have been at 22 for months, months I tell you!!! I just keep putting it up so I don't have to look at it.

Well done! :) Wish mine would hurry up too, its an awful length and always seems to take the longest to get to!

Good job, DuckyDot! Hopefully I will see you over there in a few more months.........if this stall ever stops stalling.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks Crisdee I will do some research on it. I haven't had a growth spurt in awhile.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I just measured what my goal would be... my goal right at this moment its tailbone (it changes by the hour some days) and its another 17 inches.. :( oh why oh why is my hair stalling at APL all the time.. I do updos everyday... be gentle with it.. take supplements.. wear a sleep cap.. what more can I do?
GROW DANGIT GROW!
sorry for the rant yall.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I have finally graduated from super short territory to Shoulder length!
It's pretty boring, in all honesty. I tend to just throw it up most days.
Still, hello all! :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ugh, yes this UBL almost APl length is kind of boring.I don't think I will feel like a long hair until BSL plus.
The Chin to shoulder was even more boring and conservative for my taste. I am another one that prefers pixie or in my case shaved with long bangs to medium lengths.
ETA this website is saving me though, I'm having fun learning all the braids and hairstyling options.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm finally back in this group! I chopped off a large chunk of my damage at the end of last year, taking me from RIGHT at APL back up to JUST above shoulders when wet. So my curly hair was hovering just below chin length for what seemed like forever.
Because I've been keeping it up and ignoring it, I didn't notice until yesterday that my hair is PAST shoulders when wet and it brushes/sits on my shoulders when dry. YAYYY!!
Now back to what I think is the most boring of the growth journeys...shoulder to APL. Pixie to chin seemed fast since I couldn't do anything to it, so I just ignored it. Chin to shoulder was fast, too. But Ugh. Shoulder to APL is just so...blah.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My first post !:) My longest part of my hair sits just below collarbone when it is straight... taking forever to get to APL! APL is all I am aiming for atm, hopefully I'll get there in 6 months. I really dislike this length... not short but not long arghhh.

I hear ya. I feel like I've been at this length forever! I was at the same length a year ago, and now I'm here again. Shoulder is boring and so...medium.
And welcome, from another new member! :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
:waving: 'Bye Exentricat & DuckyDot! It's so encouraging to see you graduate, gives me hope that I'll get there soon. :)
This length does seem like some sort of hair purgatory, especially with the front of my hair barely past chin. It still doesn't want to all stay in an updo, especially the day it's washed, my slippery fine hair just plops right back in my face.
And I'm still on the fence about the concept of bangs/fringe. The last time I grew them out was 1969, only kept the all-one-length thing for maybe 7 or 8 years, and I had bangs from about 1977 until I decided to grow them out last year. And I may have waited too long - I really don't like how I look without bangs, at my age I really need the softening/wrinkle covering. But I just looooove having all my hair off my face! So every day is a struggle between vanity and comfort. With hair at an irritating length. GAAAACCCKKK!! :justy:
Guess maybe I just need a hobby to take my mind off my hair :D
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I've been at this length for the majority of my adult life. I'm determined to grow it though. It's nice to finally be able to do something with it!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
So my longest layer is about an inch from APL, but the rest of my layers are in goofy places so I am hoping to be all at APL by the end of the summer.
How is it that every time you get layers cut in, a couple months later they look a complete mess?
I'm saying no to layers for now, and I will trim the longest ones to help the shorter ones catch up! :)

I agree. Especially the past few days. :( My hair just seems "stuck." I know I haven't been this length for long, and I'm hoping not to hang around it for long, but I just don't feel like I can do much with it. Bah!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Well hello! I definitely belong in this thread. My longest layer reaches about a 1/4" below my collar bone. (The shortest is just below chin length). Thankfully my hair has been growing really fast (as in a cut a half inch three weeks ago and its grown 3/4s :D) So Im hoping Ill reach apl by May or June... Its exciting when I think about that. In a anxious sort of way because I want my hair to hurry up and GROW!
