I hate this length I wish it would grow! I am just about at APL but I"m going to trim back 1/2 inch to take off more damage I haven't trimmed at all since March I believe! My hair needs it. I hope I'm APL by Christmas though :( I really should be.

Here's my beginning!
I'm currently starting with hair that is just brushing my shoulders, and I think that if I take care of it well, I can get around APL by December. Time to buy coconut oil, and eat better!
This time I am DETERMINED not to cut it no matter how much scissor itch I get.
I'll see if I can get some pictures with my not so great webcam soon.
Finally was able to get a photo!
Could someone also help me with hair typing? I'm not sure what to call my waves.

Hm...looks like I can't edit yet, so here's another link.

I started a thread for our group in the mane forum. Here's the linky: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...29#post2261929
I have a milestone to share with you guys! No picture because my hair's drying in my Aquis microfiber hair turban (which is awesome, by the way....my mom found it at TJ Maxx).
I've been growing out my second venture into getting a short angled bob since last September. First I had the angled bob in May 2011, then in September I had it shaped into an angled funky shag/lob kinda thing, and I've been growing ever since. No trims since, and I'm being kinder to my hair by hennaing, and less washing and blowdrying.
Anyway...the milestone is....
.... that I can finally use both of my medium and large Flexi-8 clips again! I can use my medium for french twists and the large if I do a bun (holds even better if it's damp). Some small pieces stick out a little bit if it's dry, but it won't be much longer before everything stays inside the bun.
I should post a picture when my hair's about 50% dry. :)
Yes, if you draw an imginary line between your armpits and you hair is at or past it, then you are APL. There is an APL to BSL thread that you can join. Try searching via google since the LHC search doesn't like small words. Congratulations!
It is hard to say when short. Also the hair is supposed to be washed and airdried with nothing on it. (Just mentioning in case you did manipulate it.) That said, maybe you are a 1c or 2a?Quote:

Congratulations on the Flexi-8s! I can almost use my medium with a twist but it doesn't stay. All in for very long. Right now I have to make do with a strong plastic claw clip.
I belong here! I will post a picture when I get my count up high enough
I have hit just brushing APL with soaking wet hair. I guess that means I can call APL in another month or two. heh
My pic!

Darn this shrinkage!! It's like 3 inches longer when it's wet and straight.
I tried a low braid last night but sadly, it wouldn't hold. I am able to loosely french braid but with a thousand pins, lol.
So, have any of you embraced the annoyances of SL-APL? WHen I have grown out before, this length drove me batty so I am trying a new approach. WHenever I get neck tickles, I try to think, "hey, my hair is long enough to tickle me and now I can pin it up".
So, I trimmed the other night, about 1/4 an inch to 1/2 an inch at most and I took some pictures around midnight after work in my room with bad lighting on my camera :P But it shows the length, is this APL?

I'd say so! I just reached APL im so happy!
I believe I am at APL now!
Hm, I want to be APL+ :( I'll wait and stick around here awhile. I would like to start learning/practicing braiding! I can only do an english braid and I don't like how it looks on my hair.
Oh my god, i have been lurking in this forum for so long... and today i finally got my membership acceptet!
Im somewhat between shoulder and collarbone and it takes forever, it feels like ive been stuck herer for years (mainly because i havenīt had the patience to grow out my hair past this stage the last few years and always cut/shaved it it of again.)
Hello frogs! Another Swede, that's cool! Some of the nicest folks here are Swedes!
haha, thank you, i guess! :)
I'm trying to remember that it's fairly easy to wear my hair down at this length versus some longer lengths. It doesn't help that my hair fluffs out a lot, though.
An English braid is totally out, and I don't have the patience to French braid. I can finally do a peacock twist with a claw clip that stays very reliably. That is now my go-to style. Plus, there's always the option of a ponytail.
This might be a stupid question and it might be answered before in this thread and if that is the case - my apologies! But i was wondering, how do you wear your hair at night, while sleeping? Which way does you hair take the least damage- in a braid or silk scarf or just loose?
thank you for the answer, palaeoqueen! I will braid my hair from now on and try to get a silk pillowcase! :)
I use a silk pillowcase (about $25) and flip it up over the pillow, loose, for now.
I usually dutch braid and sleep with a silk scarf over pillow.
thank you for sharing you tips&tricks! :) would it be technically possible to sew your own pillowcase? My mother is a seamstress and has loads of silk that i could use!
Finally a post for us in betweeners...we are long and we arent short, so were the heck do we fit in? I see from your pic you have layers just like me and that is beyond frustrating for me(about my own hair) because I feel like the longest part of my hair shouldnt count when I measure. I feel like Im cheating for some reason! But to answer your questions...I have been taking prenatal vitamins for the last twenty tw days, oiling with evoo, doing acv rinses, cwc, and laying off the heat and dye. I literally dyed my hair five times in the past two months...oh the shame!!! Before I found LHC I was washing, blow drying, straightening and THEN curling my hair on an almost daily basis and dying it regularily as well. Ive changed my ways though. Im just dreading that tell tale root sighting...I have naturally dark ash blonde hair and my color is a dark auburn right now, I look like Im going gray with my roots coming in....I may use a bridge semi perm color to ease the transition and hopefully the acv with strip some of this dyed color from my locks. Best Wishes- Belle
You might want to look into using henna on your hair instead of the chemical dyes. It actually helps your hair, and could help you preserve the auburn color if that's what you want. There are several threads and articles about it on this site that can give you far more info about it that I could if you're interested.
I sleep with mine in a high bun lately and I always use a satin pillowcase... one I like more than the other. I want to get a pure silk one though... but don't know where to order... amazon? My head gets very hot as is, and I flip the pillow to keep it cool :P
Frogs, I have a silk pillowcase. But I'm known to slide off the pillow and wake up against the cotton sheets, so I wear a satin scarf or cap just in case.
Just a question, when do you all think you will reach APL? I expect mine to be there at march 2013! (or at least i hope so.. my hair grows slow!)
I put my hair into a Gibson Tuck yesterday. Maybe stuffing hair into a pocket of other hair isn't as gentle as I thought....look at all this damage from about 14 hours in the Tuck.
I'm going to have to trim at least another inch off. *bangs head on laptop* I tried to salvage the ends with Toadstool's deep conditioning treatment as a leave-in today, but now that I'm air-dried it, I can tell there are more splits than I really care to S&D for. I'm probably going to have to go solid shoulder, maybe an inch above my collarbone by the end of the week to even everything else out. -.-

It sucks because I may not be able to use my 60th street fork when it comes in the mail this month due to an earlier 3-inch trim to lop-off a few more of my awful layers. x.x
I think I'll just stick with French Twists and Cinnabuns for now and stop experimenting with hairdos for a while.
I wear mine in two braids, but I've been doing it only for a month or so. Before that I just wore it loose. I use cotton satin pillow cases - they are probably not as hair friendly as silk or polyester satin, but they are comfortable and I don't seem to get damage from them.
My hair is APL now if I pull it straight, but I'm getting it trimmed on Thursday and want to wait until it's APL without needing to pull it. Probably I'm there by Christmas.
eta: ApatheticFairy, I'm so sorry, I didn't know it could do that :(
By/before Halloween I hope to declare solid APL. I won't be trimming again for a long time probably around Christmas/My Bday. Sometimes I look APL but another half an inch will seal the deal.
Hi Ladies! Can I join in here? I just got to shoulder length (complete with shoulder flippies) and omw to APL! :)
Congrats :)
Of course Kilandra welcome and happy growing! :)
