Wow, we're hair twins! At least in regards to length. My hair was the same length as yours in June, and is the same is the same as yours now! I envy your hair colour, it's so pretty! ♥

This might not be what you're looking for--the results are more polished, but I've gotten lots of compliments on retro updos.
Pin curl sets are really long lasting, but my hair is straighter than yours, so yours will probably come out super nice! Even though the curls will relax a bit, they'll look great for a couple of days, even after you sleep on them! Here is the set (she talks a lot, but this is how I learned to pincurl set. I use bobby pins instead of little clips, and it took a couple of sets before I got very good at it.) Here are a couple of ladies to show you updos: link 1, link 2.
Have fun at your party!
Does "collarbone length" mean skimming collarbone or does it have to be past it? I have a ballerina neck... very long, so my ends are skimming it. Also, my hair is curly, so there's that, too... if I pull it straight, it goes to the bottom of my collarbone. Did that question/explanation make sense? Haha.
Edit: I just pulled on it, and it goes past collarbone. But left on its own, just skimming the top... so where am I?
Thank you for the inspiration susan! Those updos are soo stylish. I've tried pincurls a few times (even found little vintage clips that used to belong to my grandmother) but I can't seem to get it to look that good, they usually end up in a clownish triangular shape on my head. :/ I think I need some more practise, and I definitely need to try victory rolls some time.
However, I generally favour the little more messy looks. I think I have decided on the hairstyle, choosing a dress is another matter It's obviously too long since I went to a party, haha..
That's funny, because I can't master the messy look! It looks so nice on other people, but I can't make it happen! LOL!
Have fun at the party, and share pics. :D
Years ago I had the messy look 100% of the time as I bleached and never trimmed, and even had a dreadlock in my hair.. Nowadays I have to fake it, haha!
I got chamomile tea today and am thinking of putting very strong tea in a spray bottle - anyone have experiences with chamomile? Some pages say it will lighten the hair, but I've also heard it only gives a more golden tone. That would be great if it could lessen the difference between my warm reddish lengths and the cold ashy roots.
Thanks WoolSweater! I'll try and see if it makes any difference! :)
I am almost there :)

@WoolSweater: [In regards to your question about collarbone length] If you're both skimming the top when curly and past when stretched, then there's no doubt. You're definitely there. I've got a long neck as well, so I know how that is! So many goals are so much harder for us to attain.
ETA: I can now make a cinnabun stay [and stay ALL DAY] with a scrunchie. It's neat, too. ♥♥♥
