Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Of course! Pincurls work great on our length hair.
I used this tutorial to figure it out. She talks a lot, but gives lots of good info.
I like pincurls because:
1) They are long-lasting. Once they're dry, they'll relax a little throughout the day, but they stay better than any hot roller in the world.
2) They are springy and moldable. Unlike other no-heat sets, pin curls look great when you brush them against your hand and place them where you want.
3) They're easy to sleep on, because they lay flat against your head.
4) The curls will last a couple of days. The second day, they're relaxed, but still bouncy. (My August siggy was a 2 day old pincurl set. It's in my album, and you can see how the ends flip up. My natural texture is in my current siggy.)
They do take practice, but if women could figure out how to set them 60 years ago, we can figure it out now, eh? The first time I set them, it took me about 30 minutes, but I can do it in 15 or 20 now. (A lot of women take longer to fix their hair, so it isn't too bad by comparison.)

Hi Rainbowpearl, there is always the option of a henna cream! They're not as pure as just henna+indigo or whatnot, but much healthier than regular dyes. You only have to leave it on for an hour and there's no "kitchen turned into a scientist's lab" because it's already mixed for you. :-)
Browneyedsusan, what kind of pins do you use? Bobby pins pop right out of my hair! I would love to try this, and still want to see some photos from you, please.....;)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
The best feeling in the world is throwing up a pony tail and seeing how long its gotten. Something about lengthy pony tails really get me.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thanks WoolSweater I`ll look into henna cream to see if that's more for me.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
@Liz_park: Haha :o Ikr, I just want to make my hair grow overnight *sigh*
@BlondeWavyGal: I totally understand that feeling! The ponytails seem to be so much longer than they "should" be! :D
Welcome, RainbowPearl!
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
uh-oh did i kill the thread? :p i did something I haven't done in forever today... I used actual shampoo instead of BS. I've heard scary things about people who used BS long-term so I think I'm going to switch back to shampoo. Apparently using baking soda only for hair washing is like clarifying every time you wash your hair O_O
My hair seems to be fine. It's not entirely dry yet but my bangs are super soft so I think my hair is fine with this change
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hi! Joining in on this thread too :) Very inspiring to see some of the progress here!
I'm stuck somewhere between shoulder and APL... The layers make it hard to determine where I'm at exactly, but right now the goal is to get the shortest ones to APL for it to be official for myself.
My hair is pretty damaged and grows very slowly, so I may be here for a loooong time ;)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hello All ~ I'm also growing to APL. Hopefully I'll be there by Christmas. I'm a slow grower but I've experienced some improvement since joining LHC. The neatest experience I've had is doing a tails-up but the "up" part was so long it drooped past my clasp making a weird ponytail. :D

It will be at least a week before I can get to it, but I will. :)

Welcome Twirls and Mustang Susy!
@emilylightning: well we are growing overnight...just very slowly hehe ;) Actually this past week I've been really happy with my hair. It's beginning to approach the longest it's ever been. Eeee! I am excited! I am excited for what it will look like by Christmas, and also what it will look like this time next year!
