Mine seems to grow faster in the summer, much slower in the winter. I just started taking vitamins again today. Maybe that will help. I think a good gentle scalp massage when shampooing is good. What foods are good for healthy hair and maybe to promote growth? Any ideas.
@silver curls: I am currently experimenting with eating more protein. I don't know if you're a vegetarian, but one of my good friends has been eating a paleo diet, and making "bone broth" which is homemade chicken or beef broth made from bones. It has gelatin and collagen in it and she claims that it makes her hair grow like crazy. I've been researching it a bit, and I have no idea if it works yet because I only just started this week, but if I have any success, I will write to you guys about it! I finished my first batch last night and if nothing else, it's delicious. Haha.
I think taking good care of your hair is probably 75% of great hair. I used to be really focused on growth, but my focus has shifted to healthy hair. I don't have hardly any split ends any more, and while I've gotten a bit of growth from vitamins, I would say the biggest improvement since joining TLHC is quality of hair
@brownyedsusan: I love wearing my hair down, but I find that braiding it and/or keeping it up reduces damage. Your hair looks like it's really healthy, and keeping it up probably has helped it a great deal :)

Thank you! I'm hoping by christmas I'll be comfortably there :D It just seems like it's been evading me, teasing me on with false promises of length - I'll catch it out ;P

Hey silver curls! I don't want to advocate too much for paleo diet or bone broth because I am very new to it, but I can definitely give you the recipe I used. The only thing I did differently is that I browned the bones, by cooking them in the oven at 350F for 45 minutes, before throwing them in the broth. Also I used knuckle bones and bones with marrow, from my local butcher, who only uses organic local grass-fed cows. The 3lbs of bones only cost a few dollars, he says people usually buy them for dogs. In the comments section it says to cook for up to two days -- my broth was only cooked for 24 hours in a slow cooker, and it still came out really tasty and gelatinous. I added a little boiling water to the mix about half way through because some of it was evaporating off.

I also used cheese cloth to line the strainer to get a nice clean broth. I also don't microwave the broth to warm it up -- I heat it on the stovetop.
I would love to try chicken next, I think! I'll keep you updated to see if I start noticing any additional hair growth :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I would like to say hi! I'm working on chin/shoulder to APL. I have an angled and stacked bob so I imagine it will be a while before all of it is APL, but the longest parts are collar bone. I started with the longest being chin length after a big chop in April. Now I am trying every tip and trick in the book to get all the choppy horrible layers off. Glad to be here! So much hair knowledge to soak up :D
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm just going to pop in to say that my hair feels like it's getting longer today, and I look great with a half-up half-down. Excited!!! :D
