EEP! My iron is going buh-bye when I get home from work:tmi:
In other news, I seem to be growing out of my slump. And I've reached a new milestone of sorts. I can tie my hair in a knot at the crown of my head and it stays! :cheese: Makes for a good quickie bun :)

I guess I should take heart from the fact that the least I can do is to serve as a bad example! :D

Lol.
But oh Crisdee, if only I had met you/read this before Saturday, when I Hennaed. Or this morning, when I straightened and it seemed to go all dull at the ends.
People need to be warned of this! Permanence of henna doesn't bother me, the possibility it would go brown when I straightened it would however have meant steering well clear. *big sigh*
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
UGH, sorry, PinkSara! :( I was so upset when I did this, I'd done SO much research on the H4H site, trying to buy just the right kind of henna, mix it just right, perfect amount of dye release time, and got the most AWESOME color - only to ruin it with the iron! :wail: I posted something on their board to the effect of "why didn't somebody tell me??", and the only responses I got were to the effect that there were threads about it. I guess I was so absorbed in getting the color right that I didn't see the threads about heat styling - which is why I try so hard to warn everybody I see about what happened to me. :(
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
This is certainly news to me! And I had hennaed hair for a good 5 years and heat styled regularly.
Come to think of it though, I always thought henna didn't hold properly in my hair because it always seemed to turn back to brown. But yes, it was a dark brown, darker than my natural color. But I always thought it was because henna covered my lighter/ash hairs red, which is just darker. And in all my pictures from those days my hair is always quite dark. I always attributed to lighting :D
See, I had a whole theory created in my head to explain why I had seemingly inexplicable dark chocolate brown hair for 5 years. Hilarious.
Now I know why.

Psh! Warnings?! I spent a whole week ignoring my SO (much to his annoyance) looking at the H4H website and here on the henna threads (went back through 11 pages of threads) looking for copper henna recipes and any warnings about henna over damage/bleach using chemicals over, you name it. The most recent thing I have found now that I have searched specifically is actually you discussing your hair darkening 6 months ago.
I've now got ends darker than my roots in only one wash/straighten, and am anticipating the rest getting progressively darker :( if it ends up brown I guess I'll have to indigo it to black as I refuse to cut it again!
Edit: Sorry, just realise that sounds snippy! Didn't mean to be rude at all, I'm grateful you shared your henna knowledge. Just mad I went through stripping and bleaching back to natural only to ruin it straight away!
At least now we know! :)

Thanks for answering my question :) I didn't know this either! I knew henna was permanent and that there is lots of different mixes to get different shades as well as the fact that repeated henna makes the colour go darker. How strange that it does this though, I wonder why.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm getting really close to apl but not quite there yet. My avatar is the most recent pic I have.

Before you give up entirely, you may want to try Nightshade's Sun-In lightening method before you give up entirely on your henna - if it doesn't work, you haven't lost anything. :)
ETA: You didn't sound snippy at all, just frustrated - and I sure know that feeling!

Thanks for the thought but my hair has already been dyed chemical black every 6 weeks, stripped twice and bleached once! Bleach in any form isn't an option. Especially as the idea behind the henna was to match my roots and minimise damage now I feel I'm getting somewhere with growth.
Black is nice on me and my SO prefers it so maybe I'll just henna and see if it goes brown (really hope not!) but if it does, invest in some indigo and blueberries!
I'll take pictures along the way as a warning to other henna users though that's for sure!
