Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I can relate fhairyqueen. I had an awful balyage job and now am stuck with the damaged, yellowish ends... However, I worked really hard to get to APL length and during that time I learned how to baby my ends. It took a few months of troubleshooting, but now I have no need to do more than S&D, even though there is still bleach damage. The yellow ends drive me nuts but they get tucked into buns anyway :) There is always micro trimming, or, maybe do a trim at the BSL milestone?
I think unless your hair is breaking off, some TLC and S&D may do the trick :blossom:

Nice one! I look forward to seeing it :cheer:

That's a difficult place to be in, and I feel for you. Is there an option to compromise, and cut a little every month to maintain until all the damage has gone, or would it be less painful in the long run just to go for the chop? How long have you been babying it for already?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I’m not sure how to attach a photo from my phone can anyone please explain to me how to do so?
I have something to share about my hair . You might not be that interested but I was just moping around sulking about my hair I actually just posted winging about it ... so I’m sat here going through old photos as I don’t really take photos of myself anymore it takes a while but I come across a photo from in July where I was trying to take a photo of my earrings and there is this stumpy little ponytail and I thought I’m just going to take a rough photo right now to compare my ponytail . I wasn’t expecting any change tbh. But wow I think I might have been wrong it looks slightly longer !! I’m almost in tears of joy no joke . I just wanted you to see what I’m looking at

How about microtrims? You said your hair is getting closer to APL (1 or 2 inches i believe), so if reaching a milestone will feel encouraging to you, then don't go for the big chop. Instead, trim a little once a month or once every 2 months (like 1/4 of an inch), your ends will get better and you still gain length. In that time, baby your ends: give them plenty of moisture (oils, SMT, store bought masks for damaged hair...whatever works better for you hair)and do a protein treatment once in a while, this to keep the breakage under control. You've been growing out your natural hair for a couple of years now, I think you deserve to finally see some results length wise. So you found the reason for your slower growth rate, was it the breakage?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think this is what I will do
I don’t know if my hair is growing slowly or I’d the breakage is happening and it just appears that way
When I damaged it I had left bleach on for an hour rinsed it and repeated about 3 times in one day and purple shampooing it in between . It was actually drier than straw
It’s a miracle after what I did that I have any hair
In a couple of months I went from natural to blonde to black back to blonde and multi coloured . It was snapping off to an inch in length at one point I had odd long hairs and stubbles I can’t even put it into words
I am worried I’ve permantly slowed my hair growth
But then just now I came across a photo and in comparison to now it appears to have grown
My roots reflect otherwise
It’s so confusing tbh

Estimating your growth based on the roots can sometimes be tricky, as long as you've noticed growth you shouldn't worry so much about it. I sometimes measure my hair, numbers don't lie, just don't become obsessed with it (I've seen people on here complaining about that).
And don't be too hard on yourself, I've done some aggressive at home bleaching too (numerous times...you would think I learned the first time), I always ended up with a pixie after because it looked too bad to fix.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Thank you I appreciate your replies :)
I’ve never had a pixie and I can’t imagine how hard it must be to grow one out. One of my best friends has a pixie and it looks really good on her . I wish I could pull it off like Crysta from ferngully.
I just uploaded some photos of my ponytail to my album still trying to figure out how to post them here

I never posted pictures on a thread before (not brave enough for that just yet), not sure how it's done, really. And a pixie is a huge pain, it looks cute but you get some really bad hair in the morning:D. Not to mention growing it out...I wouldn't want to do it again

I think you'll be halfway to BSL by the time I reach APL ;) I remain in awe of your growth rate, and I'm so happy for you that things look on track for reaching APL in/by February :cheer:
It's only 1/2" every four weeks! With that one growth spurt that may or may not happen ever again lmao.

I'd personally microtrim at this point. Previously I'd chop (and did that already from CBL back to SL), and I'd likely be willing to chop from later milestones back to APL to drop damage, but SL to APL has been torturous and I never want to do it again

Oh man I had the worst problem with measuring! Now, though, I almost forget to! I'm pretty sure once I hit APL I'll likely stop measuring entirely and just go by visual milestones.

If you've got them in your albums here, then you just open the photo up in your album and look in the bottom right!

You'll want the bit under "BBCode"! Then you just paste that into your post and voila!
