Just reached SL so I've come to join you. I've got about 5 inches to go before I get to APL. I reckon I can make it by this time next year, and that includes two trims. I've planned on trimming every six months until it gets long, and then adjusting it to a trim as often as it needs so I can try to get a blunt hem. My next trim is August, and it's been a real struggle to stick to that. I'm used to hopping into the hairdresser every other month!
I've been looking through the older posts in this thread, looking at the links to different ways to style hair at this length. Mine's still a bit short to do much with, but I'm determined to learn more as I go. So far I've picked up a few braiding styles, although I need way more practice with them, and my go-to style for work is a bun held with a fat round (smooth!) claw clip.
What are your fave styles for this length?
Welcome!
Currently, I'm doing double buns and french/peacock twists. My thickness doesn't allow me to do much else at this length.

I have quite a bit styles at my blog for shoulder length hair (congrats, by the way!). I've put links on under the header of my blog for specific posts. :flower:
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Welcome! I mostly do french twist, if it's hot. Otherwise I prefer to wear my hair down. Or pin stuff here and there. Not much fantasy either. Ah and half-french braid, done kind of lose.
Olivetime, I hear you! I like this length too, and I am in no particular hurry to grow. Today I trimmed my hair and cut a little too much :p.

Welcome, _fred_!
I'm terrible with doing anything at all with my hair at this length, the most I do is take it back with a claw clip, or a jeterfork.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Mini jaw clips are my go to. I make chunky twists and pin my hair up. It looks so fancy but it's easy :)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Corvana Thank you! :D I'm also not great at braiding. I'm hoping to get better though.
I did think about the no-trim challenge. I'm determined to stick to August because I want my ends to be nice and neat for the convention I go to then, but I might sign up for it when the Jan 2018 round comes along. I'd really like a blunt hem though, so it might be a case of regular trims and adding a few more years onto my timescale for getting to waist!

Thank you! :D Your hair is so gorgeous, and those are lovely styles. I totally need to try more French twists now I have the length.

I'll go take a look, thank you! And thanks for the congrats, it feels like it's taken forever even though it was only November when I started to grow it again!

I also love wearing mine down, but it gets into everything. I need to try a half-french braid.

Thank you! Oooh, I don't have any forks yet (just a few sticks that I don't quite have the length to use properly!). I'm tempted to see about getting one now, jeterforks look so nice - and secure, which is really appealing!

I love that idea! Easy yet fancy sounds brilliant.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yay! Grew to the next inch for the month. From 21 to 22. (It was 12 to 13, but I was measuring in front of my face instead of over the top of my head.)
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Do those hold pretty well for thick hair? I've never used those.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm gonna call CBL! It's JUST there if I pull the back to the front (I've got a U hemline, which is my preferred one), no longer barely brushing. Woo!
