You've got one foot out the door! I think I'll be hanging out here for a looooong time.

I'm still here too, and I'm about 2" short unstretched (I'm wavy, but when it's short it goes wavier. 2a/b, I guess). So I'll be here awhile longer too.
I belong here now! It's a long story that includes a really bad haircut, but I'm now growing out my hair! I was at ear length this summer, so it's growing pretty fast! I'm hoping to be APL in the next eight months or so. My hair is collar bone length stretched right now. :)
I'm leaving this thread... did not graduate, but chopped a whole lot of hair off. I am now between chin and shoulder and let me tell you (not trying to encourage anyone to cut their hair) that I'm so happy with my hair right now. I cut off my old bleach damage + then some and got rid of most layers. My hair is not stressing me out any more, all the damage is gone and my hair feels brand new. I still want long hair, but this fresh start was needed and I can now let it grow withou stressing over damage, (micro)trims, splits ends etc.
Tigress, I'm glad you are happy with your hair. Sometimes a fresh start is needed. Good luck on lots of healthy growth in the new year. (A wee bit early, lol)
Eurgh, I never thought I'd say this but I'm tempted.
I'm 3 months in to my actively trying to grow my hair/ baby it/ no heat etc 'challenge.' I purposefully haven't been looking at it or trying to see whether it's grown/ taken pics etc and thought I'd just do that quarterly. Well, this morning I looked and it honestly doesn't look like it's growing at all. The top layer is damaged due to bleach granted, although it's mainly just dry
as I’ve cut out the damage but the MAJORITY of my hair, the other layers are virgin hair and all had a good chop 3 months ago.
When I brush over a white sink I see no bits breaking off and there used to be LOADS.
I really thought I’d notice a difference in length in my bottom layers by now.
It is definitely growing as I have horrendous roots from growing out my bleach. I have had a shed though so maybe shoulder length is my terminal length :cries:
Idreamlong, try to hang in there and not be discouraged. For me layers=shorter look. It is something about how the ends turn under more as the layers help encourage wave. I am sure others may explain it differently and better. You can see in my siggie that I can stretch the longest layer much further than the rest of my unstretched hair. (I also think my hair grew faster when I did inverted massages.) I was puzzled for months as to why my hair looks shorter than it really is and why it didn't appear to be growing. I opted to not do a big trim to even my hair as I feel I would be losing a lot of hair. As it grows closer to waist I will do more micro trimming to even it.
Oh, I just realized that by top layer you may have meant the canopy and not length layers. But hang in there, it will grow either way.
Thanks VPatt....I actually meant it all- none of it appears to really be gaining any length. The shortest layer (the bleached layer) I can kind of understand as it is bleached and suffers from being dry etc (though I do moisturise it daily) but the rest of my hair is all my natural colour, very soft and silky, no split ends or breakages and yet in 3 months, it doesn't seem to have grown at all.
I have to admit though, I haven't measured it or taken a quarterly picture, just took a 5 second glimpse this morning as I was getting ready for work so it could have grown a small amount and I not realise.
As said previously though, it must've grown as I had 3 months worth of roots up until Sat when I got hairdresser to tint my roots and the growth was about 2.5 inches, it looked awful so it MUST be growing. It's just whether it's A) I'm not noticing it because it's layered and curly B) It's growing from roots but snapping off at ends through damaged parts I just cant see?? or C) It's growing, reaching terminal length and then just falling out :cries:
Ho hum, patience is key...I will do another 3 months before I really start to panic! I just hate this length, it's so....meh.
It's definitely a challenge at this length. If you are seeing growth at the roots and no breakage at the ends then that sounds good. 2.5" in 3 months=.8" per month which is great IMO. it is the abyss from shoulder to wherever that really stinks. I am tall with a long neck and back......so I understand and one daughter has curls....she can stretch her curls 4"-6". We will get there!!
