Stubborn's one way of putting it, it lost a perm in 3 days. Grass is always greener, I still have great hope that one day I'll wake up and it'll be a mass of 3a curls like my Nanny's.

I have such deep admiration for straight hair that I did an experiment based on the Pantene thread here in LHC. Let me emphasize that this was 4 or 5 months ago. I used Pantene "Curls to straight shampoo/conditioner" for 2 or three weeks non-stop, I just want to say that for people who want straight hair this is a better alternative than flat ironing hair if your hair is very pliable like mine. The trick is to over coat the hair with silicone. It's not flat ironed quality but it gave me an idea of what it feels like to have straight hair just on the last two days before I had to clarify. As with anything you do to your hair there is always a price, the price for me was I had to clarify my hair for two days because of massive build up! But hey at least I didn't flat iron my hair, nor will I ever flat iron my hair (I don't own one since they are too expensive!). Ok I'm so embarrrraasssed to share this but here goes:

I call this look the "Bunnysaur" inspired look, and every time I get jealous of the straighties in our group I just look back to this picture and imagine how it would feel like at the current length I'm in. And yes in my imagination it feels awesome but I'd be more prone to tangles than my curly/wurly hair. hahahaha
P.S Please excuse the breakouts I had. I was transitioning to a different facial regime at that time. LOL
I just hit below shoulder length and am growing it to armpit length now.
It took me just over a year to go from short (almost pixie-cut) to shoulder length. April 2011 - May 2012.
Now I just need to figure out hair-styles other than ponies and buns. *sigh*
Ok I found my hair journal. This was a gradual process of the effects of accumulated layers of silicone in my hair. I did not start seeing major results until at least by the fourth day. I forgot to mention that I also used the conditioner as a leave in mixed in with biosilk hair serum to increase the silicone content, and I always just let my hair air dry as it is my normal routine. Here's a list from my journal:
1) Pliability of hair did change considerably to the hairs that were coated really well. When I tried to bend those hairs that were straight it held it's straightness pretty well. I literally coiled a strand for about five minutes using my finger and it lost its curl within an hour.
2) by the second week my hair started to feel unnatural. To be more precise it felt soft but not baby soft. Instead it felt like plastic Barbie doll hair, it got to the point where my hair felt almost like plastic straw that it freaked me out, hence I had to end the experiment soon but gave it a couple more days.
3) Towards the end I had build up that easily flaked when I scratched my head. In fact my scalp started to get dandruff like symptoms even though I knew it was not fungal.
4) I experienced more tangling of my ends after the first week. My ends I felt dry, must be failure of silicone to adhere to my ends? In fact I had to be extra gentle to my hair when I wanted to detangle my hair.
5) Some of my coarse hairs became more bristle and rough like feeling. It really made some of my coarse hair look almost like horse hair texture, but with a plastic like texture.
6) Recovery took me a week of heavy conditioning masks because it felt like the whole process dried my hair out from some of the ingredients of some form of alcohol found in Biosilk. I had to resort to heavy oiling, I was a grease ball for about a week to regain the natural texture of my hair back.
Welcome to our group!
Wow. That's a lot of product to have on your hair!
I've found that after inadvertently leaving behind cones, my hair is straighter than it was before. I'm glad you got your natural texture back!
I'm really glad everyone's doing so great with their hair care routine :) I've been so lazy with my treatments and everything, and i've gone back to silicones as well (just thought i might give it another chance, i haven't been using silicones since i started the whole 'hair care thing' with forums etc.). And especially after my new discovery: dry shampoo!! omg i really wish i found out about that stuff earlier! I think i last washed my hair sunday and it's still not really greasy :D.
I do plan on doing a coconut cream pre poo & wash sometime soon, maybe sunday... that would mean i've gone a week without washing and without looking noticably greasy :cheese:
For the ones of you who are interested, the products i currently use are the inecto coconut shampoo & conditioner (conefree, but contains SLES), aussie 3 minute miracle reconstructur (my ends only) and inecto leave-in conditioner spray and herbal essences beautiful ends (i think it's called long term relationship in US) leave-in cream. I still try to put coconut oil or some other kind of oil in my hair before washing, to prevent the SLES from drying my hair out too much.
I can't say my hair looks absolutely great, i might need to get a heavier hairmask or get back to using oils as a leave-in..
I do plan to make vanilla-scented coconut oil, by cutting up a vanilla bean pod and putting it in the (unscented) oil (melted) or adding some EO's to it, i'm not sure yet :D
And @rowie: your hair looks way better curly! :D
Yes I know! But at least I somewhat got the result I wanted. I still use silicone, but only if I know the weather for the day will be extremely humid. :D I have to admit I have like a lot of shampoos/conditioners that I have to rotate them so that I can someday finish them.:eyebrows: I have so much products that not even a person with floor length hair will be able to finish them in a month. LOL
Thanks Mega. It's encouraging to hear from you that you like my natural texture since you know I've had issues with it from the beginning. But thanks to you and Daniverde you two are like a support group for me to keep on embracing my natural texture.
I'll definitely try coconut cream pre poo & wash. I hope it will go very well with my extra virgin coconut oil I use everyday as a leave in. I don't know about dry shampoo, but does it make your scalp itchy? I know if I don't wash my hair within three days my scalp goes crazy with itching.
I haven't noticed any problems yet, but i haven't been using the stuff for so long (only tuesday and thursday). My scalp isn't really sensitive though so i can't say too much about it being irritating. Also, it takes a week of not washing for my scalp to get somewhat itchy. If it helps i have the ingredients of the dry shampoo here (it's the batiste medium/brunette):
butane, isobutane, propane, oryza sativa (rice) starch, alcohol denat. parfum, limonene, linalool, distearyldimonium chloride, cetrimonium chloride, CI77491, CI 77499
I guess it could be irritating to some because of the alcohol denat., but all it is is rice starch absorbing some of the grease in your hair. I really like it for now, but there's an interesting thread on LHC somewhere (i'm too lazy to look for it now ) about using cocoa powder as a dry shampoo of sorts (for people with darker hair that is). The people that have tried it have reported pretty good results, so i think i'll experiment a little with that tomorrow :)
Also: check out these hairsticks !!!
I know they're reserved, but wouldn't it be awesome to have a pair of color-changing hairsticks?? *drool*
