Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm wondering if I should microtrim? I've got a total of 3.5" difference between my shortest section and my longest. If I were to trim .25" every month, I'd even out (and still keep length) in 14 months. And I'd have the potential of being much longer than I am now if I were to do that.
On the one hand that'd be nice, because I wouldn't lose an inch or two or three of progress by cutting when the shorter sections reach SL. But on the other hand, the uneven length is on the underside, and it causes some weirdness since it's a little lighter and has a bit more lift to it, and cutting it in one go just gets rid of all of that and leaves me with even hair to grow.
I suppose I could just... test it out? I wasn't planning to cut again until short section A (2" shorter than the bulk of my hair) hit shoulder, so I could always do smaller trims in the meantime? See if I like it?
What would you do?

Also....I found and purchased spin pins!! I think I will end up really liking them. Right now they don't hold my layers in but even so, a Cinnabon with layers sticking out feels quite secure.
Glad you like the spin pins. They work well for half ups on layered hair.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
APL seems so far away.... Only five more months, hopefully.
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Since we have some new people, (welcome!) when are you all hoping to reach APL?
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
From the middle tops of my ears, over the crown & back, my actually IS APL. I didn't realize that was a 'thing' until I joined this forum. My front used to be across the forehead bangs, but they're now 1" past my chin. There is some thinning my temple & front hairline area is recovering from (FINALLY!!!) & it makes the hair fuller near the root, for about 3" because of the new hair. The longer part is much shorter than the back: only to the tip of the V where my clavicles meet.
Back in Dec. 2016, I took a deep breath, sacrificed some length, to trim the front & sides to blend better with the back, so, now my hair has a U shape that tapers very steeply to meet the long part. I am tempted to cut the back about 2" to blend it even more, BUT, I don't want to lose the length. I think I might wait until November (BSL goal!) & THEN trim 1/4" per month to allow the sides & front to catch up BUT not sacrifice too much length. Plus, the ends will be super healthy that way.

This is my first "proper" length shot since I started growing my hair out again, taken today.

I should reach apl by october/november.
I will start microtrimming at some point to even out my hair and get rid of my fringe, but I don't think I will start that before I reach apl.

Hmmm. I've never tried to figure it out. I have about 4 inches to go, maybe November/December? My hair grows 1/2-3/4 inch a month.

Thank you :o
I think I will try to get a bit more active on this forum, I used to be so active a few years ago, not sure what happened! So many new people that i don't recognise. :) Not sure how I managed to be so active last time I had this short hair, though, I feel like there isn't much I can do at the moment that is interesting enough to share.

Estrid, your hair is gorgeous!
It looks like we're all going to reach APL around the same time. It's so exciting!
