Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I have a tentative solution for the humidity...rewetting my hair a few times throughout the day. I just did this 2 days in a row and I like it so far!
Morning: mist it with water and brush to get rid of bedhead. Put it in a bun to go to work.
After work: take it down and mist it with water again to go out. This makes my hair form curls if I leave it loose. It dries in about half an hour since I just misted it instead of completely wetting it.
Night: mist it with more water again so I can detangle it and undo the curls. Optionally wash it. then I braid it for bed.
It sounds like a lot of wet hair but it's not so bad...it's just wet while I'm sleeping and for about half an hour each time I mist it.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Well, last night I measured in at 17", which puts me at shoulder. I'm ready for the long journey to APL!
Recently, my growth has been pretty rapid (about an inch a month), so I'm hoping that by February that I'll be at solid, dry, APL. :)

Hurry up and grow!!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Well poops, lol. I just cut about another inch off and relayered everything; my previous 1/8-1/4 inch trim just didn't get rid of the splits. I'd have moved to the next thread, had I not needed a big trim so badly!
Now I'm sad...lol...looks like Christmas-ish for me, I think.I haven't measured. Almost don't want to, lol. Anyone else looking at that time frame?

in my wildest dreams... ;) lol. 3 inches to go. Depending on how much I grow a month, I could do it.. Or it could take 6 months. I havn't figured out how much a month I grow yet! :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My ends are just barely brushing APL but I don't think it's solid yet. I'll try to post a picture later this week.

I might be there by the end of the year too...not sure. It's such a crap shoot with waves and curls...one day it looks like I'm already there and the next day it looks like I have 3 inches to go.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I told myself I wouldn't join this thread until my CURLS reached my shoulder.
Bargh. Why does my hair keep bouncing back up to chin length?
::random rant done::

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I think I'm there wet, so maybe another month for it dry:D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
As embaressed as i am to have to ask (i couldn't find the answers anywhere else), could someone take mercy on this newbie and throw out some definitions of the many common abbreviations for length used on this site? To start APL, BSL, UBL, etc. I think i know some, but just want to be sure.
Also, i am joyful about my longer hair. I used to wear it in an inverted bob, but have been letting it grow. I feel sexier each inch i gain. :o it's comfortably past my shoulders now. Yay!

These are in order from longest to shortest:
BSL = bra strap length (the band on the torso, not the shoulder straps)
APL = armpit length (for example if you have a towel under your armpits, some of your hair touches the towel in back)
UBL = upper back length (longer than shoulder length but not long enough to be called armpit length yet)
I think there's also a sticky for abbreviations on the "Mane" forum.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hey all here is my latest pic
can I call this APL yet

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm of the opinion that if you have to ask, the answer is "no, not yet" ...
Looking at the picture I think you have about 1 - 1.5" to go until APL.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Im at alittle past apl, and thinking about cutting it! I hate when it is down and the wind blows it into my armpit. But I love it long. Maybe that way I forget to make the appointment, lol.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Can I jump in on this thread? I am just a little past shoulder but it feels like a very long ways til I reach apl. I trimmed my hair about 1/4 in a few days ago. It hadnt been trimmed since March. I cant wait to get to know all of you ladies and gents! Happy growing!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Hey newbies. I feel like im never getting anywhere either. lol Im a slow grower lol
We are all in this together.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Some days I feel like it's -so- far away. Other days it feels like I'll be there in no time. Today is a day for the latter. I HATE my graduated bob thing I have going on today. The front of my hair is just barely skimming my shoulders. I will see how I feel about it by next weekend.
If i still hate it, I'm calling my hairdresser
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Mine is doing the long hard road of growing out of a graduated bob.... Ive got lots of layers still growing out. I dont ever want to do another BOB

Since the weather has gotten colder I'm guessing not. My hair grows about an inch a month in warm weather, but it slows way down in the winter.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Ok, here is a question. How are you styling your hair at this length? I am getting pretty bored with putting the sides up. My hair is layered so they pop out everywhere. I need some suggestions please.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm just past shoulder length my self. I know what its like to wait and hope for your hair to grow. I have done everything to try and speed up my hair growth. I want to get to my next goal that is apl.

I braid mine in two french or dutch braids (and believe me- if my hair stays in, yours will) and then put something decorative over the ends so that it looks like a crown braid. Or I do a french roll with the stuff at the bottom and just pin the top parts in.

Oh how I wish... :sigh: Curse you, layers! I will say though, I have learned a lot about how to use bobby pins! They help decrease my fidgeting with my hair. Still do it more than I should, though.

I have very short layers. And yup, I use a lot of bobby pins. Still looks good though!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm at shoulder in the front and about two inches shorter in the back. I guess i have a really really long grown out asymmetrical bob lol. It does feel like it is taking forever. So so long. Sigh.
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
My hair doesn't appear to be growing at all.. I know it is, but as it's getting longer.. it just flips up into this ridiculous little 60's looking thing. :undecided
I want to see PROGRESS!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I have an inch and a half left dry. THIS IS TAKING FOREVER. And the layers are still awful and impossible to style.
I feel like at least in a couple more inches, it will be easier to style. Right now it's still a bobby-pinned nightmare!
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Mine's really irritating me right now. The longer it gets, the more wave appears. I like this, but I feel like I'm not really gaining length. Plus, I have shorter layers in my hair, and they don't all go back into a ponytail, so when I pull my hair back my ponytail feels so thin.
Whine whine whine. I wish this stage didn't last so long.

I just have entire bumps that come loose. Maybe this is a thickness + layers issue? French braids are one of my favorites, I would love to be able to do them. Maybe I'll try practicing again this weekend.
