Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I am on my second month of not looking at my length or growth.. It's fun when you have a long way to go to reach your first milestone,, but when your close but not there it feels like torture, so I choose not to look... lol :)

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It seemed to take forever to get from jaw-length to collarbone, and it did, b/c I kept trimming it and lost 3 inches in a year. I decided to ignore it starting in June and now it is solidly below my collarbone, which to me is success. I would have been at APL by now had I not trimmed, but I am no longer impatient b/c it doesn't seem short to me. My goal is BSL at the most, which should be about a year. I'm not trimming anymore b/c I like non-blunt ends, so I can just ignore it now. YAY!!!!!!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
SlightlySoprano, I would definitely call that APL if my hair was looking like yours! :) Congrats! :D

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Future APL-ian joining the thread!-- And yes, I too would call that APL, SlightlySoprano, kudos!
My hair seemed to jump down my neck from ear- to shoulder-length, and now it's just hanging out...*pout* I have a ways to go...and I measure when my hair is wet so I can count more length, lol, so my numbers are self-deceiving. About a month ago I casually assumed (maybe even posted on here???) I would be at BSL by mid-June...what was I thinking?!!?! LOL. Now I realize APL is even a stretch for six months. I think it's about 21 ish inches, dry, for me.
Hey Lilli, how much time did it take to get to collarbone from shoulder-tops for you?

About 3 months, but that was from 6-9 months pregnant!

Thank you guys for the wonderful support! Graduating to the APL - BSL thread now... Hope to see you there soon! :blossom:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
It's funny how my hair seems like it's still shoulder lenght when it's actually halfway to the APL. I wish summer would come soon, it really could be APL by then. :)
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Question for those of you who have hair at least halfway between shoulder and APL- do you mentally still consider your hair shoulder-length? True shoulder length for me is around 17" and APL is 22-23" and I'm at roughly 21." Getting close to APL but I still have lots of people tell me they love my new "shoulder length cut" even though it was at my shoulders months ago. :(
-
Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
im sad! i cut my hair tonight! (the sides) arghhhhhh! the damn split ends made me fall into temptation!!!!!
im feeling a little down atm! wish i had just left them! im not good at S& D ing cos i get carried away i think i cut too much off! i dont trust the hairdressers either cos they just chop too much off aswell! my hair is soooo uneven now and i think i have done more harm than good cos i have just realised that i havent been checking my scissors.....yes they are blunt!!! arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :(
ok rant over!!!! breathe annie breathe!!!!!

Don't worry about those people. They don't use the specific length words we use here. I know my hair is at my collarbone and don't care what word another person would use!

We have 35 stages for hair growth on the German board. It starts with "bald head" and goes to "*** cm longer than floor length". So you can image, we have a stage for that too. It's upper back length. Which is stage number 12. For those, who understand German or bother to translate a link.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I'm still trying to recover from the Haircut from Hell (now, I've had Haircuts from Hell before (joe dirt mullet...) but this one wasn't intentional.)
My hair before:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...mara/003-3.jpg
After my stylist massacred it (I went for a trim and asked her to shorten the top layer...not hard, right?)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...1600x800-1.jpg
The back after Erica (angel that she is) did the best job she could at fixing it (I'm still working on it. I feel like I'll be back on track after I get another trim in about 6 weeks.)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...mara/001-8.jpg
Growing towards APL. Thinking I might like to lose the layers. I had layers before that I really liked, but lately, they've been looking...feathered? (you can see my original, subtle layers that I really loved.)
I still want to kick the ass of that stylist that butchered it back in November. I didn't even realize it was bad (although she was rude to me) when I left, when I got home and looked in the mirror, I almost cried. And everyone told me it looked GOOD, I wondered where their eyes (or brains) were at!

Now I'm wondering what number is so offensive that it has to be blocked... What did that number do...

The style for layers now is so aggressive that I would be afraid to ask for them anywhere. The good news is that your layers will look good as they grow longer, so I'd just leave them alone.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Yea...well I'm not getting another trim for a while (though I dislike the fact that for some reason, I seem to have more splits on the right side of my hair. It's winter and VERY cold this year, I'm sure that's damaging my hair.) I'm trying to go 2 months between trims and I'm going to keep going back to the same girl, who knows me and how to cut MY hair (she's the one that fixed the horrendous style.)
I was getting in the shower and out of curiosity I grabbed a random loose bra strap (one of those removeable ones) and stuck it under my arms and across my back to see how close I am to APL. I'm AT APL now!!!! I can't believe it!!!! :cheese: My hair doesn't seem to be long enough to really DO anything with, (maybe I just don't know how) but I think this is the longest it's ever been.
Yayaaaa!!!!!! :D

Congrats!
I finally found some relatively cheap satin pillowcases. Now I can see firsthand what all the fuss is about.:p
I also bought some claw clips. It's getting harder and harder to keep my hair out of the way in the shower when I want to wash my body so I think these will come in handy!

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I wish my hair was all the same length! The back is less than an inch from collarbone, but the front is just to my lips. This means when the back is APL, the front will be like collarbone length! Grrr.

My hair is not the same either, but I think when it reaches BSL or waist will make a cute round hemline! :D Plus half-ups work great. :cheese:

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
I still have some layers. Last time my hair stylist cut my hair to be less layery. At this short length, I realised only afterwards, my hair does need layers.
I decided to only do S&D until my hair is at some point, where it does not need the layers any more. Meanwhile I hope my hair while get more layers naturally by itself. Obviously not every hair on my head grows with the same speed.
I don't know at what point (my) curly hair won't need layers any more. Maybe at BSL?

Yes I do consider it SL because I can't come up with a name for it until it's APL. :D

Wow! Very cool forum! I do not speak, read or write German but languages have always fascinated me and thank goodness for cognates! :)
After browsing the forum, I was VERY pleased to see http://www.langhaarnetzwerk.de/phpBB...pic.php?t=4366
which is a thread that posts different pictures of the different hair types! After seeing the examples, I am now convinced I am a 2a!
Thank you for sharing that link.
I have been wanting to learn German for some time now, maybe that site will be my incentive! ;)

Thanks, Lilli, for the encouragement! My hair is actually almost 2" longer than collarbone in the front now when it's pulled straight. Grow hair GROW!

Agree! Then I can have a designated length! We should just change our profiles and wait for it to catch on.

Re: Calling all who are growing shoulder to APL!
Those hair length descriptions are hilarious! My hair is exactly at shoulder now, at least the back of it is, front has a little ways to go to catch up, I'm rocking the growing-out-mullet, alas. I'm joining this thread! I'm a new member here, and excited about the journey.
